Abstract: A composition for the treatment of metal surfaces comprises 50-99.9 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid or its salts, 0.1-50 wt.% of a carboxylate containing monomer or corresponding salts, anhydrides or esters and/or 0.1-50 wt.% monomers containing phosphoric and/or phosphoric acid groups or their salts, 0-30 wt.% of other compatible monomers and water or another solvent suitable for the dispersion, suspension or emulsification of monomers. A composition (I) for the treatment of metal surfaces comprises: (a) 50-99.9 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid or its salts, 0.1-50 wt.% of a carboxylate containing monomer of formula (1) or corresponding salts, anhydrides or esters and/or 0.1-50 wt.% monomers containing phosphoric and/or phosphonic acid groups or their salts, 0-30 wt.% of other compatible monomers; (b) water or another solvent suitable for the dispersion, suspension or emulsification of (A) and optionally; (c) other surface active agents, dispersing agents, suspending agents and/or emulsifiers.
