    Abstract: A liquid agent for de-icing and protecting against icing-up is described, by means of which it is possible, in particular, to free the metal surface of aircraft rapidly and completely from ice, hoar-frost, snow and the like, and to protect the surface against further build-up for a relatively long period. The agent is essentially composed of several components, namely of a) glycols, b) water, c) thickeners, d) substances insoluble in water, e) surface-active agents, f) corrosion inhibitors and g) alkaline compounds, in very specific quantities in each case, the quantity of the components a) and b) being at least 94%, relative to the total weight of the agent. Its pH value is 7.5 to 10.

    Abstract: In the present invention there are disclosed defrosters and antiicing agents for airplanes based on glycol and water, consisting of (a) 60 to 97 percent by weight at least one glycol being selected from a group comprising alkylene glycols containing 2 to 3 carbon atoms and oxalkylene glycols containing 4 to 6 carbon atoms, (b) 0.01 to 1 percent by weight at least one non-ionic tenside being selected from a group comprising aliphatic alcohols having 6 to 24 carbon atoms and these aliphatic alcohols alkoxylated with low-molecular alkoxides with 1 to 10 alkoxide units, (c) 0.01 to 0,8 percent by weight at least one corrosion inhibitor and (d) water being balance to 100 percent by weight, whereby the weight percentages are based on the agent total weight. The efficiency of the agents ("hold over time") increases by addition of anionic tenside (b') being selected from a group comprising alkali metal alkylaryl sulfonates with one or more sulfonate groups, one or more alkyl groups containing 5 to 18 carbon atoms and one or more benzene rings in the amount of 0.01 to 1 percent by weight to the aforementioned non-ionic tenside, whereby their weight ratio should be 1:(0,5 to 1).

    Abstract: The composition described includes as thickener water- soluble crosslinked acrylic homopolymers having a mean molecular weight of from 750,000 to 1,250,000 and a viscosity, in the form of a 0.5% strength by weight aqueous solution with a pH of 7.0 and a temperature of 20.degree.C, of from 1000 to 13,000 mPa-s, measured with a Brookfield viscometer at 20 rpm, and in addition thereto from 0.02 to 1.5% by weight of at least one nonionic surfactant formed from an alcohol having 6 to 22 carbon atoms which is reacted with from 1 to 10 molecules of a low molecular mass alkylene oxide, and from 0.03 to 1% by weight of at least one water-soluble salt compound of an inorganic acid or a carboxylic acid or a mixture thereof. The deicing liquid described is notable for a long holdover time and good flowoff behavior.

    Abstract: A novel non-thickened de-icing composition and anti-icing composition for aircraft is described. It comprises essentially glycols and water as the main components, at least one nonionic surfactant from the group consisting of fatty alcohols and low molecular weight alkoxylates thereof, and preferably another anionic surfactant from the group consisting of alkali metal alkylarylsulfonates, corrosion inhibitors and, if appropriate, pH regulators. The novel composition has a relatively long holdover time and therefore combines the advantages of non-thickened and thickened aircraft de-icing compositions.
