Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of providing a low-viscosity emulsion good in polymerization stability during a polymerizing reaction and mechanical stability of the resultant emulsion and having a small particle diameter when used as an emulsifying agent for emulsion polymerization by formulating different kinds of compounds having a specific critical micelle concentration. SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by including (A) a compound represented by formula I [R1 is O-(A4O)s or the like; A1, A2 and A4 are each a 2-4C alkylene; (p) and (q) are each 1-50; M1 and M2 are each a monovalent cation; and (s) is 0-50] and having 0.005-0.1 molL-1 critical micelle concentration(CMC) (e.g. a compound represented by formula II or III) and (B) a compound represented by the formula R2O-(A3O)r-SO3M3 (R2 is a monovalent aliphatic hydrocarbon; A3 is a 2-4C alkylene; (r) is 1-50; and M3 is a monovalent cation) and having 1×10-5 to 0.02 molL-1 CMC (e.g. a compound represented by formula IV) and regulating the molar ratio A/B of the components A to B to (5/95) to (75/25).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the solubility or dispersibility of a rubber-base or resin- base asphalt improver in asphalt and improve the weatherability, temp. dependence, etc., of asphalt by incoroporating a phosphorus compd. into the improver. SOLUTION: Inorg. phosphorus compd. in an amount of 0.1-10wt.% and 0.1-30wt.% compd. having a hydroxyl group bondable to the phosphorus compd. are incorporated into or an org. phosphorus compd. represented by the formula (wherein R is an 8-36C aliph. hydrocarbon group or a 6-26C alkylphenyl group; (m) is 1-2; (n) is 0-10; and (k) is 1-2 provided m+k is 3) is incorporated into an asphalt modifier. A synthetic rubber such as a natural rubber or a styrene- butadiene rubber is used as the modifier, an esp. pref. example being a vinylarom. compd.-conjugated diene block copolymer which is a thermoplastic elastomer. Pref. examples of the modifier are an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and an ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer.
