    Abstract: In some embodiments, an access terminal is configured to select a first set of system resources, and communicate a message to acquire access to the first set of system resources, wherein the message conceals that the access terminal is capable of communication with a second set of system resources. In one embodiment, the first set of system resources includes circuit--switched system resources, the second set of system resources includes packet-switched system resources, and an access terminal conceals from the network that it is operable using the packet-switched system resources in order to acquire and/or maintain connected mode access to the circuit- switched system resources. Such embodiments allow an access terminal to use circuit- switched system resources even if the network does not support CS fallback or has refused a CS fallback request.

    Abstract: Techniques for sending a message for random access by auser equipment (UE) are described. In an aspect, the UE may send the message on a control channel for random access and may send a reserved channel identifier to indicate the message being sent on the control channel. In another aspect, the UE may send the message in a protocol data unit (PDU) and may send additional information (e.g., a buffer status report) in the PDU if it can accommodate the additional information. In yet another aspect, the UE may generate a short message authentication code for integrity protection (MAC-I) for the message. The short MAC-I may have a smaller size and may be used to authenticate the UE. In yet another aspect, the UE may send a UE ID of one of multiple types for random access and may convey the UE ID type via a format field in the message.     Abstract: Techniques for signaling carrier bandwidths supported by a user equipment (UE) for carrier aggregation are disclosed. A UE may be configured with a plurality of carriers for carrier aggregation. Each carrier may have one carrier bandwidth of a set of possible carrier bandwidths. The set of possible carrier bandwidths may be dependent on a band in which the carrier belongs. Multiple combinations of carrier bandwidths for the plurality of carriers may be possible. The UE may identify at least one supported carrier bandwidth combination for the plurality of carriers. Each of the supported carrier bandwidth combinations may include a particular carrier bandwidth for each configured carrier. The UE may send signaling indicative of the at least one supported carrier bandwidth combination. The UE may thereafter communicate on the plurality of carriers based on a carrier bandwidth combination selected from the supported carrier bandwidth combination(s).
