    Abstract: The object of the invention is a liquid packaging board (1), wherein the base board (3) is provided with at least one polymeric coating layer on both sides thereof to decrease the flavour scalping from a packaged liquid, such as citrus fruit juice. Inside the baseboard, there is a layer (6) of ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer either in a direct contact with the packaged liquid or coated with a thin layer of polyolefin. The invention also relates to a closed package for liquid food that is formed from the liquid packaging board (1) by folding and seaming, wherein the side that comes in contact with the food product, correspondingly, comprises an EMA layer and, possibly, a thin polyolefin layer on top of the same. The invention further comprises the use of EMA in decreasing the flavour scalping from the packaged liquid by the packaging material.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a heat-sealable biodegradable packaging material, which comprises a fibrous substrate (1) and one or more polymer coating layers (2) extruded onto said substrate. According to the invention the packaging material includes at least one polymer coating layer (2) containing at least 70 weight-% of polylactide (PLA) and at least 5 weight-% of polybutylene succinate (PBS) or its derivate blended therewith. Optionally an acryl copolymer such as ethylene butyl acrylate glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer (EBAGMA) may be included in the polymer blend. The invention further concerns a heat-sealed container, such as a disposable drinking cup, and a heat-sealed product package made from the packaging material, as well as uses of PBS or its derivates as blends with PLA in extrusion coating, for improving adhesivity of the coating to the fibrous substrate and reduced raw edge penetration to the packaging material, especially penetration of hot coffee held in the drinking cup.

    Abstract: A method for improving the heat sealability of a packaging material and a method for manufacturing a heat-sealed container or package are described. The material can be polymer-coated packaging paper or cardboard, or a polymeric packaging film. The material includes a polymer layer that contains polyester, particularly polylactide, the heat sealability of which is improved by ultraviolet radiation. Polylactide is useful as such or when blended, for example, with other biodegradable polyester. The containers and packages thus manufactured include disposable drinking cups and cardboard carton and box packages.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a heat-sealable packaging material and a sealed package formed from the same, especially for packaging foodstuffs. The packa ging material comprises a base layer of paper or board and polymeric heat-se alable layers on one side of the base layer or, preferably, on both sides th ereof. According to the invention, at least two layers of ethylene vinyl alc ohol copolymer (EVOH) with different fractions of ethylene monomer are arran ged on the packaging material to provide an oxygen barrier. The layers can l ocate against each other without a tie layer between them. The heat-sealable polymer can be a polyolefin, and, in addition, other polymeric barrier laye rs can be incorporated into the material to improve its oxygen, fat and arom a tightness.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a multi-layer heat-sealable packaging material especially for food packages. In addition, objects of the invention are a food package formed of the said packaging material, a method of packaging, and the use of the material for packages. The packaging material ( 1 ) comprises a middle layer ( 3 ) of fibre material, such as cardboard; at least one polymeric protective layer ( 4, 5 ) protecting the product from going bad; and polymeric heat sealing layers ( 2, 7 ) preferably on both sides of the packaging material. According to the invention, the heat sealing layer ( 7 ) forming the inner surface of the closed package, is blended with light-absorbing pigment, such as carbon black, for protecting the product from visible light. By further blending white pigment, such as titanium dioxide, into the heat sealing layer ( 7 ), a grey tint resembling an aluminium foil has been achieved for the layer. The heat sealing polymer may be low-density polyethylene (PE-LD), and an oxygen and aroma proof sealing layer ( 4 ) of, for example, ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) or polyamide (PA) may be provided between it and the cardboard ( 3 ).
