    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film which is excellent in transparency, water absorbency, mechanical characteristics and heat resistance and which, when utilized as a photographic material base or cover layer, can be made thinner than the conventional TAC film and makes it possible to realize smaller photographic equipment, higher unrolling speed, etc. CONSTITUTION:A polyester film having a vapor permeability of at most 15.0g/ m .24hr/0.1mm, a moisture content of at most 1.5wt.%, and a curl recovery of at least 70%; and a photographic material made by using the polyester film as the base.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film which can be cut off manually, easily and linearly and is superior in productivity, tenacity and heat resistance by a method wherein the value of birefringence of a biaxially oriented polyester film mainly composed of polyethylene terephthalate is made 0.04-0.10 and a thickness of the same is made 2-75mu by satisfying a specific formula. CONSTITUTION:An index of birefringence, tensile break strength in a main orientation tear direction (Tm), tensile break elongation in an auxiliary orientation direction of a biaxially oriented polyester film are established respectively as 0.04-0.10, 15-35kg/mm and 5%-70%. Then as the tensile break elongation (Em) in a main orientation direction is 80-170% and the tensile break strength in the auxiliary orientation direction is 4-20kg/mm , manual tear properties are improved. In addition, as stress (Fs) at the time of elongation of 5% in the auxiliary orientation direction exceeds break strength (Ts), the film is superior in productivity and tenacity. Thus the film which can be torn easily, linearly and manually can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To impart a forgery-preventing function to a film itself for use as the base sheet for cards and bonds and to improve secrecy and safety, by incorporating magnetic particles having a specified particle size in a plastic film. CONSTITUTION:A plastic film containing 0.001-10 wt% magnetic particles having an average particle size of 0.05-10 mu. When the size of the magnetic particle is smaller than 0.05 mu, it is difficult to detect magnetic signals, while when it is larger than 10 mu, the surface smoothness of the film is deteriorated and the appearance becomes poor. When the content of the magnetic particles exceeds 10 wt%, a difference in output distribution is small and the discriminating function is lowered, while when it is less than 0.001 25%, part of output signals can not be detected. When the plastic film is used as a card, individual cards can be discriminated by a difference in output signal distribution between them by detecting magnetic signal output with a magnetic sensor.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To stably make the re-stretching with high draw ratio possible by a method wherein, firstly, un-stretched film is stretched longitudinally; secondly, stretched laterally by the specified method and finally re-stretched at least in one direction. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, un-stretched film is stretched longitudinally. Secondly, under the state that the temperature at the edge of the resultant film to be laterally stretched is made lower than that at the central part of the film by 2 deg.C or more, the resultant film is laterally stretched so as to realize the conditions that the double refraction index of the film portion, which ranges from the film clamping position by 10-50mm to the center of the film, is 0.05-0.20 and the at the same time the mean thickness of said film portion is 3-15 times as thick as that of the center of the film. Thirdly, the resultant biaxially stretched film is re-stretched in al least either one out of the longitudinal or lateral direction. At this time, the re-heating treatment of the film can also be performed, when necessary. Thus, the breakage of the film is hard to develop, even when the re-draw ratio is higher and the manufacture of the film with high Young's modulus becomes stably possible at a high yield.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to stably perform the longitudinal re-stretching of a biaxially stretched film having an arbitrary width for a long time without bursting said film, by adjusting both metal rolls used as a low speed drive nip roll and a high speed drive roll to a specific temp. range. CONSTITUTION:In performing the longitudinal re-stretching of a biaxially stretched polyester film between low sped drive nip rolls, a metal roll 3 of which the surface timp. is 100-195 deg.C and a covered roll 4 having a polyurethane cover layer having a thickness of 4-25mm and hardness of 70-95 are used. The polyurethane forming the cover layer of the covered roll is prepared by crosslinking a stock polymer having an urethane bond (-NHCOO-) in the pres ence of diisocyanate or aromatic diamine. The value of the nip force between the low speed drive nip rolls must be 0.1-5kg/cm, pref., 0.5-3kg/cm. As the high speed drive roll, a metal roll, of which the surface temp. is adjusted to 75 deg.C or less, is used.
