Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the resistance to moist heat of the polarizing film by incorporating polyhalogen ions contg. iodine into an adhesive. CONSTITUTION:The polarizing film formed by laminating transparent bases via the adhesive on both surfaces of the polarizing film consisting of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film contains the polyhalogen ions contg. the iodine into the adhesive. The polarizing film consists of a film formed by absorbing the iodine or dichromatic dye as a polarizing element on the unstetched film of the PVA system, then stretching the film in the longitudinal direction or a film formed by stretching the film of the PVA system in the longitudinal direction, then absorbing the iodine or the dichromatic dye as the polarizing element thereon. The polarizing film having the excellent resistance to moist heat is obtd. in this way.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled film having a specific whiteness of raw polymer chip and a specific void ratio of the film, by melting and extruding polymer chips produced by adding a specific amount of fine calcium carbonate powder to polyethylene terephthalate and biaxially drawing the produced film. CONSTITUTION:Polymer chips produced by adding 5-30wt.%, preferably 8-25wt.% calcium carbonate fine powder (preferably having an average particle diameter of 0.3-1.5mum) to a polyethylene terephthalate (preferably containing >=90mol% ethylene terephthalate unit) are extruded in molten state and biaxially drawn (at an areal draw ratio of 9-15) to obtain the objective film having high reflectivity of light and excellent whiteness and satisfying the formulas alpha>=45 (preferably alpha>=50), 7 =65, where in alpha (%) is whiteness of the chip and beta (%) is void ratio of the film.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled staple fiber having a straight part at least one end of fiber terminal and spinnable without causing the troubles of nepping and web breakage even if three-dimensional crimps of high percentage crimp and large number of crimps are actualized. CONSTITUTION:A straight part having a total length of 20-50% and essentially free from development of crimp by the heat-treatment at =1.5. The fiber length of the staple fiber is >=50mm. The spinnability of the fiber can be maintained even by spinning after cotton dyeing. Most part of the fluffs are straightened to prevent entanglement. It has high resistance to slip-off and a woven or knit fabric produced therefrom has excellent feeling, bulkiness, softness and suringness.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a phase difference film having small dependency on the angle of a visual field by copolymerizing monomers giving polymers causing positive and negative double refractions in the form of films, forming a film of the resulting copolymer and orienting the film by uniaxial stretching. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of monomer giving a homopolymer causing positive double refraction DELTAn1 defined by equation I in the form of a uniaxially stretched film is copolymerized with at least one kind of monomer giving a homopolymer causing negative double refraction DELTAn1. In the equation I, nalphai is the refractive index of the film in the direction of the stretching axis in the plane of the film and nbetai in the refractive index of the film in a direction perpendicular to the stretching axis. A film of the resulting copolymer is formed and oriented by uniaxial stretching. A phase difference film having small dependency on the angle of a visual field and capable of extending the visual angle range can be obtd.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film low in dielectric loss at high temperatures and suitable for capacitors, etc., having a second-order transition temperature, a melt specific resistivity, a crystallinity, etc., each in a specified range and prepared by biaxially stretching a polymer based on PET. CONSTITUTION:About 75-95wt.% polyethylene terephthalate is mixed with about 25-5wt.% other polymer (e.g., polyarylate or polycarbonate). The mixture is melt-extruded into an unstretched film and this film is biaxially stretched to obtain an oriented film, which is then heat-treated to obtain the purpose polyester film. This polyester film has a second-order transition temperature as measured with a scanning differential calorimeter >=80 deg.C, and a difference between the second-order transition temperature and the m.p. of 100-170 deg.C, a melt specific resistivity >=1X10 .cm and a crystallinity of 8-25% as measured by X-ray diffractometry.
