    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a thermoplastic polyurethane resin which hardly whitens during molding, has improved toughness, bending modulus, and transparency, and is useful for a spectacle frame by keeping the difference between the crystallization peak temp. and glass transition temp. and the Shore D hardness each in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:A diisocyanate pref. comprising an arom. diisocyanate (e.g. 4,4'-diphenylmethane (diisocyanate), a short-chain glycol (e.g. 1,4-butanediol), and a long-chain polyol (e.g. polytetramethylene glycol with a mol. wt. of about 2,000) are reacted to produce a thermoplastic polyurethane resin which comprises hard segments formed from the diisocyanate and the short-chain glycol and soft segments formed from the diisocyanate and the long-chain polyol, and has a difference between the crystallization peak temp. (observed by heating 10g of a sample at a rate of temp. rise of 40 deg.C/min to 240 deg.C, keeping it at 240 deg.C for 2min, rapidly cooling it with liq. nitrogen, and then analyzing it with a differential scanning calorimeter from 0 deg.C at a rate of temp. rise of 10 deg.C/min) and a glass transition temp. of 270 deg.C or higher and a Shore hardness (20 deg.C) of 74 or higher.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the subject adhesive existing in the stage B state, thermally curable and suitable for adhering electronic materials such as liquid crystal spacers by suspending an epoxy compound compounded with a latent curable agent in an aqueous liquid and subsequently partially curing the suspended epoxy compound with a water-soluble amine curing agent. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy compound compounded with a latent curing agent (e.g. a phenol novolak) is suspended or emulsified in a liquid solvent consisting mainly of water. The suspended or emulsified epoxy compound is partially cured with a water-soluble amine curing agent (e.g. piperazine or hydrazine) to provide the subject adhesive.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject resin excellent in a refractive index, toughness, Abbe's number, hardness and light resistance and desirable for particularly spectacle lenses by polymerizing a specified polymerizable monomer. CONSTITUTION:A high-refractive index resin is produced by using a compound of formula I (wherein R2 is a group of formula II or III; X is H or CH3; and R2 and R3 are each an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue or an aromatic hydrocarbon residue, provided that when they are aliphatic hydrocarbon residues, the sum of the numbers of their carbon atoms is 1 to 6) as a polymerizable monomer. The obtained resin is excellent in a refractive index, Abbe's number, hardness, transparency and light resistance, and is desirable for use in optical lenses, especially spectacle lenses. The polymerizable monomer of formula I can be obtained by thioesterifying the terminals of a dithiol compound of formula IV by reaction with (meth)acrylolyl chloride or by the addition reaction of the terminals of a dithiol compound with a divinylbenzene.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title adhesive having excellent adhesive power, handleability, etc., by incorporating a specified organosilicon compound into the surface of a spherical particle comprising a mixture of an epoxy compound having a plurality of epoxy groups with a latent curing agent. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy compound having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule (e.g., bisphenol A epoxy resin) is mixed with a latent curing agent (e.g., polyvinylphenol), and this mixture is suspended in water to form a spherical powder. An organosilicon compound of the formula (wherein R is alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, vinyl, amino, epoxy, etc.; X is methoxy, ethoxy, methoxyethoxy, etc.; n is 0, 1 or 2) (e.g., methyltrimethoxysilane) is incorporated into the surface of this spherical powder to give a spherical powdery adhesive suitable as, e.g., an adhesive for electronic material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a powdery adhesive which comprises spherical particles containing a latent curing agent evenly therein and is capable of satisfying a wide range of requirements for characteristics, by dissolving an epoxy resin and a latent curing agent in an organic solvent, dispersing this solution in a non-compatible dispersing medium to form a suspension, and then removing the organic solvent therefrom. CONSTITUTION:An adhesive composition obtained by dissolving an epoxy resin and a latent curing agent in an organic solvent is dispersed in a non-compatible dispersing medium having a boiling point higher than that of the organic solvent to form a suspension, and the organic solvent is then removed therefrom. Consequently a spherical particulate material is formed which is composed mainly at least an epoxy resin, contains a latent curing agent within the particles, and has an average particle diameter of 0.3-500mum. Spherical particles having an average particle diameter of about 1-20mum thus formed can be suitably used as an adhesive for spot bonding of a liquid crystal display cell. In the above-mentioned process, it is preferable that the boiling point of the organic solvent is 100 deg.C or lower, the non-compatible dispersing medium is water, and the latent curing agent is a condensate or an adduct.
