Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a green emitting phosphor free from discoloration during lighting of a high-load fluorescent lamp, showing a high luminous output, and giving stable lamp characteristics by forming a composition represented by a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:A Ce- or Tb-activated phosphor represented by formula I (wherein Re is at least one of Y, La, and Gd; a>0, b>0, 0 =0, f>=0, g>0, an 0.8>=e+f+g =0; y>0; 5X10 ), wherein the contact electrification charge on the surface of phosphor per unit weight, under a load on the tube wall of 0.055W/cm or higher, is between that of an alpha-Al2O3 powder (having a particle diameter of about 0.1mum) and that of an SiO2 powder (having a particle diameter of about 2.0mum). This phosphor does not cause discoloration during lighting of a high-load fluorescent lamp (0.055W/cm or higher). Therefore, a fluorescent lamp made by using a green emitting phosphor showing a high luminous output and giving stable lamp characteristics can be obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a minute scratch in the bulb cutting process from growing into a crack and to improve the yield rate by sealing airtight with a frit glass after the scheduled connecting part of a bulb is soaked in a solvent of frit glass beforehand. CONSTITUTION:Two U-shape bulbs 1 and 2 are placed side by side. Then U- shape opening ends of the bulbs 1 and 2 with large diameter opening ends and the cutting end surfaces of the trace of a paddle are soaked in a solvent 12 of liquid frit glass and the solvent is permeated 13. After that, two bulbs 1 and 2 which are permeated 13 with the liquid frit glass solvent, for example, are prepared, and one side cylindrical ends 11f, of the cylindrical ends 11f and 11g, are made into connecting ends 1a and 2a, which are connected to the upper lid 3a of a metal cap 3 through an elliptical plate of solid frit glass 20, and sealed airtight. Consequently, a minute scratch in the cutting process is filled with the frit glass solvent, and the generation of a crack at the bulb can be prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enlarge the wetted area by glass adhesive to increase the adhesion strength by providing notched portions on at least either of the rising peripheral wall of a filling member or continued walls of glass tubes. CONSTITUTION:Notched portions 40, 40 are provided on the rising peripheral wall 24 formed around the flange portion 23 of the body 21 of a connecting member so as to face to the continued walls 18, 18 of glass bulbs 10, 11. When the connecting member 20 is joined between respective connecting end portions 10a, 11a of U-shaped glass bulbs 10, 11, the collision of the upper surface of the wall 24 to the lower surfaces of the walls 18, 18 can be avoided by the said notched portions 40, 40, and the lower surfaces of the walls 18, 18 are inserted in the rising peripheral wall 24. Thus the height of the wall 24 can also be enlarged. Therefore, the contact area (wetted area) of melted glass adhesive 25 to bulbs 10, 11 can be enlarged, and the wetted area by the glass adhesive 25 on the body 21 of the connecting member 20 can also be enlarged to increase the adhesion strengths.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent black brown spots and yellow coloring from occurring by providing a protective film made of metal oxide between the inner face of a glass bulb and a phosphor film at the bend molded section of the glass bulb and specifying the thickness of this protective film. CONSTITUTION:A protective film 20 made of metal oxide of at least one kind of alumina, silica, titania, e.g., gamma-alumina, is formed between the inner face of a glass bulb 10 and a phosphor film 16 at the bend molded section of the luminous tube glass bulb 10, and the thickness (t) of the protective film 20 is set to a range of 2-8mum. The protective film 20 reduces the contact between the sodium deposited on the glass surface and mercury ions and prevents the reaction between the sodium and mercury ions and prevents the formation of NaHg amalgam. Black brown spots and yellow coloring are thereby prevented from occurring.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To automatically prevent the thermal breakage of lighting circuit components due to the rise of the ambient temperature by thermal-conductively connecting the amalgam string section of a fluorescent lamp and a heat generating component among electronic lighting circuit components. CONSTITUTION:A component which generates heat when energized and is thermally week among electronic light circuit components, e.g., switching transistor 22, is thermally connected to an exhaust pipe 15 storing a main amalgam 16. Thereby, when the temperature of the transistor 22 rises abnormally, the heat of the transistor 22 is transferred to the exhaust pipe 15 to heat the main amalgam 16. Then, the mercury vapor pressure in a luminous tube bulb 10 is changed. When the temperature of the main amalgam 16 becomes higher than the preset value for the highest mercury vapor pressure, the mercury vapor pressure is lowered. Therefore, the current flowing through circuit components 8 is reduced, the resistance heat generation of the transistor 22 among the circuit components 8 is reduced, and the ambient temperature is lowered. As a result, the excessive temperature rise of the transistor 22 is prevented, and the thermal breakage is automatically prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the lateral gap between bulbs and realize a compact size, by contracting the width of each bulb in the direction square to the axis at each connecting end. CONSTITUTION:Bulbs 10 and 11 are contracted of their diameters in the direction square to the axes, or the radius direction, at the connecting ends 10a and 11a, and the outer diameter WA at the connecting ends 10a and 11a is contracted to a specific value smaller than the diameter WB of the other parts of these bulbs. Therefore, around these connecting ends 10a and 11a, and the connection 12 to connect them laterally, an excessive space is set as large as the contraction of the connecting ends 10a and 11a. As a result, even though the lateral gap W between the bulbs 10 and 11 is reduced, a burner flame can flow evenly around the collars of the connecting ends 10a and 11a. Therefore, a compact size of flurescent lamp is realized.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce energy loss at the communicating section where contribution to the brightness is low by forming the end section of respective glass bulb to have large diameter then jointing the adjoining glass bulbs at said large diameter section to communicate each other while making the cross-section area of said communication hole same or larger than that at non-jointing section of glass bulb. CONSTITUTION:Bulbs 1-3 have the linear sections at the opposite ends of respective U-shaped bent section 1a-3a. Large diameter sections 1b, 1c-3b, 3c are formed at the end section of respective linear section of said bulbs 1-3. The jointing sections of said glass bulbs 1-3 are heated by gas burners 6, 6. When heating, air or inert gas is blown into respective bulb 1-3. Pressurized gas is blown through one open end into the glass bulbs 1, 2 while pressurized gas is blown through an exhaust tube 4 into a glass bulb 3 positioned in the center. Consequently, the softened wall face is blown off by the pressurized gas to form the projected jointing sections 1d, 2d, 3d at the jointing section.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make without increasing the lamp diameter uniform the brightness at the side of light emission face by separating the cathode from the light emission face by at least the length between the cathode and Farady dark section while limiting the discharge path to be near to the inner wall at the light emission face side. CONSTITUTION:A cathode 3 for emitting thermions comprising a filament applied with electron emission material is arranged through a conductor 4 approximately in the center at the sealing face side 12a while being separated from the light emission face 11 by more than the distance between the cathode and the Farady dark section (normally, 30mm). While a facing wall 7 or a member for limiting the discharge path between an anode strip 5a and cathode 3 to be near to the inner wall at the light emission face side 11 is arranged in the lamp 1a. Since limiting member for bringing the discharge path near to the surface at the light emission face side and means for producing magnetic field crossing with said discharge path are provided, necessary discharge path can be achieved without increasing the diameter of lamp resulting in uniform brightness at the light emission face side of lamp.
