Abstract:
The invention provides a compression device for the limb of a mobile patient. The device includes an inflatable sleeve adapted to surround the limb; a conduit attached to the sleeve for delivering fluid to the sleeve; and a portable, wearable controller attached to the conduit that generates and controls the flow of fluid in the device.
Abstract:
Device (1) for monitoring cardiac compression being applied to a pateitn comprises a body to overlie and contact the sternum, preferably of width no greater than the width of the sternum. The device includes indidication means (9) responsive to the force applied to the body by the user for providing an indication of the cardiac compression applied to the sternum. Also disclosed is a resuscitation mask adapted to be place over the mouth of a patient, the mask includes a nostril closing means adapted to press against the sides of the nose to close the nostrils when the mask is sealed against the face of the patient.
Abstract:
A method of monitoring the patency of an inflated tube in a pneumatic medical device. The method includes inflating the tubing of the device, generating a pneumatic pulse at one part of the tubing by varying pressure in the tubing, sensing at another part of the tubing the variation of the pressure, determining the time between the generated and sensed pressure, and producing a human-perceptible signal when the time between the generated and sensed pressure exceeds a reference level.
Abstract:
An automatic tourniquet including a mechanism for inflating and deflating a cuff, a pressure sensing mechanism, and a mechanism for displaying the pressure. The pressure sensing mechanism includes a pressure transducer producing a pair of digital signals, and a mechanism for adjusting the signals so that the pressures at which the transitions between the digital quanta occur for one signal are different from the pressures at which the transitions occur for the other signal. The mechanism for adjusting includes a mechanism for setting the signals to be equal at a selected pressure, and a mechanism for offsetting the signals from each other by a voltage corresponding to one-half a digital quantum. The offset signals are summed by a microprocessor to produce a display with twice the resolution of the individual signals.
Abstract:
Embodiments disclosed herein relate to a garment system including a flexible compression garment, at least one sensor, and at least one therapeutic stimulation delivery device operable responsive to sensing feedback from the at least one sensor, effective to provide therapeutic radiation to a body part of a subject. Embodiments disclosed herein also relate to methods of using such garment systems.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for continuous passive motion back support for a person comprising a fluid-inflatable bag disposed between a static structure and the back of a person, the fluid-inflatable bag including a back-engaging surface cyclically moveable to increase and decrease the distance between the static structure and the back-engaging surface thereby to cycle the lower back through a substantial range of lordosis, a conduit adapted to conduct the fluid between the reservoir or the atmosphere and the fluid-inflatable bag, and programmable circuitry for adjusting a voltage supplied to an electrically-powered pump, whereby fluid flow in the conduit is effected by adjustably operating the electrically-powered pump. Various multiple bag embodiments are disclosed. Also disclosed is an apparatus and method for providing a baseline support pressure during continuous passive motion for the lower back of a person.
Abstract:
An automatic pneumatic tourniquet apparatus for occluding blood flow in a person's limb includes an adjustable pneumatic tourniquet (16) operable to vary the pressure applied about the limb, a systolic blood pressure monitor (14) and a control circuit responsive to changes in the blood pressure measured by the pressure monitor to operate the tourniquet to maintain the pressure about the limb at a level greater than the person's blood pressure by a predetermined amount. The apparatus maintains tourniquet pressure at a minimum acceptable level and thereby minimizes nerve damage caused by the compression of the tourniquet on nerve tissues over long periods.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a vibrating plate apparatus that comprises a vibrating plate (12) on which the user desiring muscular toning rests, a vibration motor member connected to the vibrating plate for vibrating the latter at a predetermined frequency, a plurality of air cushions provided under the vibrating plate for dampening the vibration effect, and an air tank in communication with each of the air cushions and in which the air pressure is maintained at a predetermined value. The tank establishes the air pressure in at least one of the air cushions at a predetermined value independently from the weight of the user. The motor member includes two motors rotating in opposite directions, each of the two motors including a set of flyweights driven by the rotation axis of the motor and having a centre of gravity that is offset relative to the axis, each of the two sets having the same mass and being symmetrical relative to each other and including at least one movable flyweight that can assume at least one position for varying the vibration amplitude of the vibrating plate.
