Abstract: Catalyst (A) comprises active oxygen compounds of molybdenum and/or tungsten (I) on an oxide carrier and is prepared by: (i) applying precursors of (I) to the carrier (or its precursor); and (ii) calcining at 400-900 deg C. It is characterized by having transport pores of diameter over 25 nm and transport pore volume at least 50 mm /g. Independent claims are also included for: (a) method for preparing (A); and (b) preparation of poly(tetrahydrofuran) or tetrahydrofuran (THF) copolymers (or their di- or mono-esters) by polymerization of THF in presence of at least one telogen and/or comonomer, and in presence of (A).
