    Abstract: In a method for removing acid gases from a fluid stream, a) the fluid stream is treated in an absorption zone with an absorbent that comprises an aqueous solution of at least one amine, b) the treated fluid stream is conducted through at least two wash zones and is treated with a non-acidic aqueous phase in order to transfer entrained amine and/or entrained amine decomposition products at least in part into the aqueous phase, wherein aqueous phase is recycled through at least one wash zone and aqueous phase is conducted through at least one wash zone without recycling. The method permits an efficient retention of amines from the treated fluid streams.

    Abstract: A process for removing acidic gases from a fluid stream, in which a) the fluid stream is treated with an absorption liquid which comprises at least one amine, a stripping aid and water, said stripping aid being selected from water-miscible liquids whose boiling temperature at standard pressure is lower than that of water, b) the treated fluid stream is treated with a liquid aqueous phase in order to transfer entrained stripping aid at least partly to the aqueous phase, c) the laden aqueous phase is heated in order to at least partly drive out the stripping aid, and d) the aqueous phase thus regenerated is cooled and recycled at least partly into step b). The stripping aid promotes the regeneration of the absorbent by stripping. Emissions of the stripping aid via the treated fluid stream are avoided by washing the treated fluid stream with a liquid aqueous phase.

    Abstract: A process for removing carbon dioxide from a fluid comprises the steps of: (a) treating the fluid by bringing it into countercurrent contact with a liquid absorbent in a first absorption zone and thereafter in a second absorption zone to absorb at least part of the carbon dioxide contained in the fluid into the absorbent; (b) depressurizing the loaded absorbent to release a first stream of carbon dioxide and yield a partially regenerated absorbent; (c) recycling a first stream of the partially regenerated absorbent into the first absorption zone; (d) heating a second stream of the partially regenerated absorbent to release a second stream of carbon dioxide and yield a regenerated absorbent; (e) recycling the regenerated absorbent into the second absorption zone; (f) condensing water vapour entrained in the second stream of carbon dioxide by cooling the second stream of carbon dioxide and transferring at least part of the heat recovered to the partially regenerated absorbent by indirect heat exchange. The invention provides a two-stage carbon dioxide recovery process wherein the overall energy required for carbon dioxide recovery is reduced and/or wherein at least part of the carbon dioxide is recovered at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure so as to reduce the energy required for compression of the carbon dioxide, e. g., for sequestration. Also disclosed is a plant for removing carbon dioxide from a fluid.

    Abstract: A compound of the general formula (I) in which R1, R2 and R3 are independently selected from C1- 4-alkyl and C1-4-hydroxyalkyl; each R4 is independently selected from hydrogen, C1-4-alkyl and C1-4-hydroxyalkyl; each R5 is independently selected from hydrogen, C1-4-alkyl and C1-4-hydroxyalkyl; m is 2, 3, 4 or 5; n is 2, 3, 4 or 5; and o is an integer from 1 to 10. A preferred compound of the formula (I) is 2-(2-tert-butylaminoethoxy)ethylamine. Absorbents comprising a compound of the formula (I) have rapid absorption of carbon dioxide from fluid streams and are also suitable for processes for the simultaneous removal of H2S and CO2, where given H2S limits have to be observed but complete removal of CO2 is not required.
