    Abstract: PURPOSE: To efficiently produce an etherified polyhydric alcohol which is useful as a base for cosmetics using fatty acid polyhydric alcohol esters as a starting substance in increased productivity. CONSTITUTION: (A) A fatty acid polyhydric alcohol ester of the formula: G(B)Z (G is the residual group of a polyhydric alcohol after hydrogen atoms are removed from the hydroxyl groups in a polyhydric alcohol having 3 or more hydroxyl groups; B is H or 1-11C acyl group; Z is the number of hydroxyl groups of the polyhydric alcohol in G; Bs of z number have each at least one of H and an acyl group) and (B) an alkyl halide of RX (R is a 1-36C alkyl, alkenyl) are allowed to react in the presence of a base to give (C) a fatty acid ester of etherified polyhydric alcohol of the formula: G(R)x (B)y (x, y are a number of >=1 totaling to z). Then, the product is hydrolyzed to give the objective alcohol of the formula: C(Rx )Hy.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a new branched fatty acid amide forming a thermotropic liquid crystal in a water dispersion system, showing compatibility with almost all solvents, having excellent dispersibility and useful a cosmetic base, etc. CONSTITUTION: This compound is shown by formula I [A is a group of formula II or formula III ((p) and (q) are each 0-14 to give the total of 0-14; (r) and (s) are each 0-13 to give the total of 0-13) ; B is a residue derived from a polyhydric alcohol containing three or more hydroxyl groups by removal of one hydroxyl group; R is H or a 1-6C alkyl] such as N (2,3,4,5,6- pentahydroxyhexyl)-isostearic acid amide. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a branched fatty acid derivative of formula IV (X is a halogen, hydroxyl or methoxyl) with a polyolamine of formula V.

The modified organo(poly)siloxane is added in an amt. of 0.01-30-wt.% to a silicone oil to emulsify it to produce cosmetics.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a modified organo(poly)siloxane useful as an ingredient of cosmetics by reacting a specific alcohol-modified organo(poly)siloxane with a phosphorus oxyhalide and hydrolyzing the linkage between phosphorus and a halogen. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol-modified organo(poly)siloxane having at least one group of formula I (wherein R and R are each 2-4C alkylene; R is a 1-50C linear or branched alkylene group optionally having hydroxyl groups; q is 0-200; and r is 0 or 1) directly attached to an Si atom in the molecular chain is reacted with a phosphorus oxyhalide, and the linkage between phosphorus and a halogen is hydrolyzed, giving an organo(poly)siloxane having at least one group of formula II (wherein R , R , R , q, and r are each the same as described above; and M and M are each H, an alkali metal, ammonium, or an alkylamine or alkanolamine group). Thus obtd. organo(poly)siloxane is excellent in compatibility, emulsifying properties, foaming properties, etc., and suitable as an ingredient of cosmetics.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an oral cavity composition having a good smell, a good taste, not changing the tastes of beverages and foods, having excellent foamability, minimized in irritative, having good cerumen dispersibility, and not inhibiting the actions of pharniacologically active agents such as bactericides and antiseptics. CONSTITUTION:A glyceryl-etherized polyhydric alcohol of the formula (R is the residue of a polyhydric alcohol, saccharide alcohol or saccharide having four or more OH groups; R is 4-20C linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl) is added preferably in an amount of 0.1-20wt.%, especially 0.5-5wt.%, based on the whole composition as an essential component to an oral cavity composition such as tooth paste, tooth powder, tooth liquid, mouth wash, gargling tablet gingiva-massaging cream, chewing gum, troche or candy to afford an oral cavity composition having the above-mentioned activities. The composition can be used together with a cationic bactericide because it does not inhibit the actions of pharmacologically active agents.
