It exhibits a remarkablely rapid and continued disinfection effect action against oral cavity bacteria, while providing a good taste. Its disinfection effect is not reduced in the presence of surfactants. In addition, it does not color the tooth.

A glycolic acid amidosulfuric acid ester salt of formula II (R is an alkyl or an alkenyl) is especially preferable among the compound of formula I. The compound of formula I, for example, is obtained by reacting an aliphatic amine of formula III with a cyclic lactone of formula IV to give an N-alkylamidoalkanol of formula V, reacting the compound of formula V with an alkylene oxide to give an N-alkylamidoalkanol of formula VI, then reacting the compound of formula V or formula VI with a sulfating agent and neutralizing the reaction product with a basic substance.
