    Abstract: PURPOSE:To recover the title substance and to reuse part or the whole except the recovered substance with the raw material by isopropylating a raw material naphthalene derivative replaced with OH, OCH3, OC2H5, etc., at the 2-position with propylene, etc., in the presence of an acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A raw material naphthalene derivative replaced with OH, OCH3, OC2H5, etc., at the 2-position is isopropylated with an isopropylating agent such as propylene or isopropanol to give a reaction mixture having a ratio of number of isopropyl groups/number of naphthalene rings of 0.4-2.2. The reaction mixture is distilled to give a fraction having the title substance concentrated, the fraction is crystallized from an aliphatic hydrocarbon (e.g. pentane or hexane) to recover the objective substance, part or the whole except the recovered substance by the distillation and the crystallization as a return substance is added to the raw material and a molar ratio of isopropyl group/ naphthalene ring is made 0.41-6.0.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, dyeing assistant, etc., in high selectivity, conversion and yield by reacting an aniline compound with an olefin in liquid phase in the presence of a solid acid catalyst consisting of a cation-exchanged laminar compound.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the subject compound in high selectivity by transalkylating diphenyl ether and/or 4-methyldiphenyl ether with penta-or hexamethylbenzene or a specific polymethylnaphthalene as a methylating agent. CONSTITUTION:Diphenyl ether and/or 4-methyldithenyl ether is transmethylated with pentamethylbenzene, hexamethylbenzene or a polymethylnaphthalene having five or more nucleus-substituted methyl groups as a methylating agent under a relatively mild reaction condition to prepare 4-methyldiphenyl ether and/or 4,4'-dimethyldiphenyl ether in high selectivity. Hexamethylbenzene, octamethylnaphthalene, heptamethylnaphthalene, etc., are preferable as the methylating agent. The prepared compounds are useful as raw materials for 4,4'-diphenyl ether dicarboxylic acid.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the subject substance useful as a methylating agent in high selectivity by reacting a polymethylbenzene having plural CH3 groups with methanol as an alkylating agent in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an ion exchange type lamellar compound. CONSTITUTION:A polymethylbenzene having 2-5 CH3 groups is reacted with methanol in a molar ratio of 1:1-30 in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an ion exchange type lamellar compound at 150-300 deg.C for 30min to 8hr to prepare the subject substance in a high yield. The ion exchange type lamellar compound has a shape in which many lamellar clay layers are laminated to each other and an ion component (e.g. protons, Al ions, Ga ions or Fe ions) is contained between the layers, and includes montmorillonite, bentonite vermiculite and tatrasilic mica. >=30mol% of the ion component is preferably cations.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To recover the title high-purity compound from a mixture consisting essentially of isopropyl-2-naphthols in high recovery ratio by adding a specific aliphatic hydrocarbon as a solvent to the mixture and recovering a solid substance. CONSTITUTION:A mixture consisting essentially of isopropyl-2-naphthols containing 6-isopropyl-2-naphthol obtained by isopropylation of 2-naphthol is blended with 5-11C aliphatic hydrocarbon (e.g. hexane or n-octane), stirred at room temperature, optionally under heating under normal pressure, under reduced pressure or under pressure, cooled and a solid content is recovered to regain 6-isopropyl-2-naphthol from the mixture. By this method, the title compound can be separated and purified industrially and advantageously. The title compound, for example, is effective as a precursor in production of naproxen, antipyretic analgesic anti-inflammatory drug.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the initial selectivity of oxidizing reaction and produce the corresponding arylalkyl hydroperoxides at a high concentration in high selectivity by using a specifically treated transition metallic complex as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: (A) A transition metallic complex is pretreated with oxygen or a peroxide (preferably alkyl hydroperoxides, etc.). (B) An arylalkyl- hydrocarbon of the formula [P and Q are each H or an alkyl; (n) is 1-3; Ar is an n-valent hydrocarbon] (e.g. cumene) is then oxidized with a gas containing oxygen in the presence of the resultant transition metallic complex as a catalyst and converted into arylalkyl hydroperoxides. Furthermore, the transition metal in the component (A) preferably has an ion of the transition metal, selected from the groups I, II, VI, VII and VIII of the periodic table (e.g. manganese) and coordinated with a ligand (preferably an aliphatic cyclic compound containing nitrogen, especially porphycenes, etc.) and the atom coordinated with the ion is preferably nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur.
