    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an optically active chromene compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, etc., by reacting a chromene derivative in the presence of oxygen molecule, an aldehyde and a specific optically active manganese(III) complex catalyst. CONSTITUTION:This optically active compound of formula IV (* is optically active point) can be produced by reacting a chromene derivative of formula I (R , R and R each is H, an alkyl or an aryl; R is H, an alkyl, an aryl, cyano, nitro, etc.; (n) is 1-4) in the presence of oxygen molecule, an aldehyde of formula II (R , R and R each is H, an alkyl, etc.) and an optically active manganese(III) complex catalyst of formula III (R and R each is H, an alkyl, an aryl, etc.; R , R , R and R13 each is H, an alkyl, silyl, an aryl, etc.; X is an anion). An optically active chromene oxide having inverted absolute steric configuration can be produced by carrying out the reaction in the presence of a nitrogen-containing compound. The chromene compound is useful as an intermediate for an agent for the treatment of hypertension or asthma.

CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I ((n) is 0 or 1; R to R are H, alkyl or aryl; R is H, alkyl, nitro or benzyloxy; (m) is 1-4) is reacted with oxygen molecule and an aldehyde of formula II (R to R are H or alkyl) in the presence of an optically active manganese (III) complex catalyst of formula III (R and R are H, alkyl or aryl; R to R are H, alkyl, trialkylsilyl, aryl, etc.; X is anion) in a solvent to give the subject compound of formula IV. Safe and inexpensive oxygen molecule is usable as the oxidizing agent.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method for producing an optically active alcohol useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines, agrochemicals, etc., or as a raw material for liquid crystals, fine chemicals, etc., by using an easily handleable hydrid reducing agent in the presence of a new catalyst. SOLUTION: A ketone compound is reacted with a hydrid reagent in the presence of an optically active metal compound and preferably further in the presence of an alcohol compound to obtain the objective optically active alcohol. The objective optically active metal compound is preferably an optically active cobalt (II) complex of formula I (R , R are each H, an alkyl, an aryl; R and R may together form a ring, and R and R may also together form a ring; R and R are each H, an alkyl, an aryl, an acyl, an alkoxycarbonhyl), such as a compound of formula II or a compound of formula III. The compound of formula I is obtained e.g. by formylating a 1,3,-diketone derivative, subjecting the product to a dehydrative condensation reaction with a 1,2-diphenyldiamine derivative (optically active diamine) as an asymmetric source to form ligands, adding a cobalt (II) dichloride aqueous solution in the presence of NaOH and subsequently heating the mixture.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain an optically active alcohol useful as pharmaceuticals, etc., using an easily handleable hydride as a reducing agent by reacting a ketone compound in the presence of an optically active metal compound as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION: This optically active alcohol is produced by reacting (A) a ketone compound with (B) a hydride reagent, preferably a metal hydride (e.g. aluminum lithium hydride) in the presence of (C) an optically active metal compound [preferably an optically active cobalt(II) complex expressed by formula I (R and R are each H, an alkyl, an aryl, etc.)]. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of (D) an alcohol compound (e.g. ethanol). The component A is e.g. 2,2-dimethylchromanone expressed by formula II (R to R are each an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or an aromatic substituent) and the reaction is carried out at -60 to 0 deg.C under atmospheric pressure for about 1-10 days.
