    Abstract: 27,563. Walker, J., and Todd, J. Dec. 4. Chimney and ventilating-shaft tops.-The top consists of a base 1 with spiral ribs 2 covered by a sleeve - 5 and capped by a finial 9, Fig. 3, or by a modification of the spiral louver top described in Specification No. 5404, A.D. 1896. The sleeve 5 is of the form shown in Fig. 2, and has a chamfered upper edge 7 and abutments 8 for supporting the piece 9 or the lowest of the spiral sections. These sections each form a turn and a third, and have cylindrical bores and extensions 11 which have chamfered upper and lower edges 12, 13, forming a continuous air inlet. The topmost section is a plain conical piece 14 .

    Abstract: Cable, wire, optical fibre and other elongated objects may be encased in a tube which has a longitudinal axis and is made from an elongated strip of oriented crystalline thermoplastic polymer film, wherein the strip is memory-set into a split tubular shape. The split may be parallel to the longitudinal axis or follow a helical path along the tube. Preferably, the strip is memory-set so portions adjacent its longitudinal edges overlap or are adapted to be interlocked. After forming into tubular form, the split tube may be splayed open and wound up on a roll for easy transportation; the memory- set tube will re-form when the strip is unwound from the roll.

The particles arc manufactured by contacting the granules of plastics material with a mixture of grains of the inert mineral and grains of a soluble substance such as salt, at an elevated temperature, to coat the granules with the mixture, and subsequently dissolving the soluble substance grains from the coating to provide the granules coated with the grains of inert mineral in the predetermined packing density range.

    Abstract: A loose particulate material for use in waste water treatment comprises granules of plastics material carrying weighting material so that the granules have an average density of approximately 1.0g/cc. At least a portion of the weighting material is carried within the granules and the surfaces of the granules are provided with concavities to provide a habitat for organisms effective in waste water treatment. The particles are manufactured by incorporating a weighting material into the granules, contacting the granules with grains of a soluble substance at an elevated temperature to coat the granules with the soluble substance grains and subsequently dissolving the soluble substance grains. The weighting material may be sand, the soluble substance may be sodium chloride.
