    Abstract: Vinyl copolymer compositions, especially ASA compositions, exhibit improved weatherability and color retention performance when processed according to the invention. Disclosed herein is a method of improving the weatherability and color retention performance of vinyl copolymer compositions and exterior siding incorporating such vinyl copolymer compositions. More specifically, a method is disclosed comprising improving the weatherability and color retention of vinyl copolymer compositions, especially ASA compositions, which is advantageous with respect to cost and ease of manufacturing. Composite articles are also disclosed incorporating the foregoing improved vinyl copolymer compositions as an exterior layer.

    Abstract: A microsuspension polymer (A') having an average particle diameter of 0.08-100 microns comprises (A11) 0.05-20 wt.% of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having free acidic groups (A12) 80-99.95 wt.% of copolymerizable monomers, whose homopolymer is free of basic groups and (A13) 0-10 wt.% crosslinking monomers. Independent claims are included for: (1) a graft polymer micro-suspension (A) comprising (A1) 20-99.95 wt.% of a graft core having an average particle diameter of 0.08-100 microns and (A2) 0.05-80 wt.% of a graft sheath whereby both (A1) and (A2) are free of basic groups and (A1) and/or (A2) is formed at least partially of ethylenically unsaturated monomers having free acidic groups. (2) a process for the production of (A') or (A) by dispersion of (A') or the corresponding monomers of (A1) in water in the presence of a protective colloid to form a dispersion having an average particle diameter of 0.08-100 microns, polymerisation of the droplets with a radical polymerisation initiator to a conversion of greater than 50% and optionally graft polymerisation of the resulting mixture with monomers of (A2). (3) a molding composition comprising 1-85 wt.% graft polymer (A), 15-99 wt.% (B) - a polymer matrix consisting of polymers of styrene, alpha -methylstyrene, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile and/or (meth)acrylic acid ester, 0-50 wt.% (C) - fibrous and/or particulate fillers and 0-40 wt.% (D) - other additives; and (4) fibers, film or molded articles prepared from the molding composition.

    Abstract: A process for the production of polyacetals by the copolymerisation of glyoxylic acid esters with cyclic formals derived from dioles, homopolymers of formaldehyde, trioxepane or mixture of these compounds, in which up to 50 wt % of this group of monomers may be replaced by other conventional copolymerisable monomers like epoxides, aldehydes with at least 2 C atoms, tetrahydrofurane and/or C2 to C4 olefines, in the presence of anionic or cationic polymerisation initiators and possibly the hydrolysis of the glyoxyl acid esters polymerised into the copolymer, use of the polyacetal carboxylates thus obtainable as an additive in low-phosphate and phosphate-free washing and cleaning agents, as a water treatment agent and as a dispersant for finely divided substances, and polyacetals which are obtainable by the anionically or cationically initiated copolymerisation of glyoxyl acid esters with cyclic formals derived from diols and possibly the introduction of stable final groups and possibly hydrolysis of the ester groups of the glyoxyl acid esters polymerised into the copolymers.
