Abstract: Process for the preparation of cycloalkanols by hydrolysis of cycloalkyl-C1-C4-fatty acid esters, which comprises the following steps: a) reacting cycloalkyl-C1-C4-fatty acid esters with water at a temperature of 30 to 250 DEG C in the liquid phase, which gives a reaction mixture essentially composed of cycloalkyl-C1-C4-fatty acid esters, cycloalkanol, C1-C4-fatty acids and water. b) separating the reaction mixture obtained in step a) at a temperature of from 0 to 200 DEG C into a top phase which is essentially composed of cycloalkanol and cycloalkyl-C1-C4-fatty acid esters and a bottom phase which is essentially composed of water and C1-C4-fatty acids c) separation of cycloalkanol from the top phase obtained in step b) by distillation and recirculating unreacted cycloalkyl-C1-C4-fatty acid esters to step a). a

Abstract: 2,6-Dimethylmorpholine is prepared from N-(2-hydroxypropyl)-2,6-dimethylmorpholine by a) reacting the latter in the presence of catalysts of sub-group I, II and/or VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements at temperatures from 150 to 600 DEG C and then with water at temperatures from 30 to 300 DEG C or b) reacting it in the presence of acidic catalysts at temperatures from 100 to 400 DEG C and then hydrolysing with water under acidic conditions at temperatures from 30 to 300 DEG C.
