Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing shell catalysts for the catalytic vapor-phase oxidation of aromatic carboxylic acids and/or carboxylic acid anhydrides comprised of a supporting core and of catalytically active metal oxides which are deposited in a shell-shaped manner on said supporting core. The inventive catalysts are obtained by spraying an aqueous active mass suspension, said suspension containing the active metal oxides, at higher temperatures onto the hot supporting material which has a temperature ranging from 50 to 450 DEG C. The aqueous active mass suspension contains 1 to 10 wt. %, with regard to the solid content of the active mass suspension, of a binding agent comprised of A) a polymerizate obtained by radical polymerization, containing 5 to 100 wt. % of monomers (a) in the form of ethylenically unsaturated acid anhydrides or ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids whose carboxyl groups can form an anhydride and containing 0 to 95 wt. % monoethylenically unsaturated monomers (b) with the provision that the monomers (a) and (b) comprise, on average, a maximum of 6 carbon atoms which are not functionalized with groups containing oxygen, and of B) an alkanolamine having at least 2 OH groups, a maximum of 2 nitrogen atoms and a maximum of 8 C-atoms, whereby the weight ratio A:B ranges from 1:0.05 to 1:1.

Abstract: The invention relates to a pump (1) comprising a pump feed tube (13) for transporting a heat exchange medium (6) for a reactor containing a bundle of catalyst tubes (2). The pump (1) has a housing (14) that surrounds the pump feed tube (13) and comprises an opening (15) in the lower part of the housing (14), which allows the heat exchange medium (6) that is drawn from the lower section of the reactor by the pump (1) to flow into the housing (14). The medium flows upwards in the section lying between the internal wall of the housing (14) and the external wall of the pump feed tube (13), optionally over a heat exchanger (18) and into the interior of the pump feed tube (13) via an opening (16) in the upper section of said pump feed tube (13). The medium then flows through the pump feed tube from top to bottom, into the reactor via an opening (17) in the lower section of said tube (13) and into the upper section of the intermediate chamber between the catalyst tubes (2).

Abstract: Preparation of catalyst molded body, whose active mass is a multi-element oxide, comprises adding a finely ground precursor mixture, as a finely ground molding agent, to the graphite until the desired geometry is formed, thermally treating the catalyst precursor molded body and obtaining the catalyst molded body at increased temperature, where the specific surface is 100-1000 m2>/g and the particle diameter of the finely ground graphite is 0.5-10 mu m. An independent claim is included for: (1) a catalyst molded body obtained by the process; and (2) a procedure for the heterogeneous catalytic gas phase reaction, where the catalyst comprises the catalyst molded body.
