    Abstract: The present invention provides for the use of aqueous film-forming formulations comprising at least one copolymer P as film-forming constituent which is present in disperse form in the formulation and is composed of ethylenically unsaturated monomers M, the monomers M comprisingi. from 70 to 99.9% by weight of at least one ester of methacrylic acid with a C1-C10-alkanol andii. from 0.1 to 30% by weight of at least one different monoethylenically unsaturated monomerand at least 50% by weight of the monomers M being other than methyl methacrylate and not more than 1% by weight of the monomers M having two or more ethylenically unsaturated double bonds, for coating mineral moldings.The present invention additionally provides a method of coating the mineral moldings, and also the mineral moldings themselves.

    Abstract: Method of coating mineral moldings with film-forming aqueous formulations involves applying first coat(s) containing copolymer(s) (P1) as binder and inorganic pigment(s); optionally drying; then applying coat(s) containing copolymer(s) (P2) as binder and optionally inorganic pigment, in which copolymers P1 and P2 consist of (A) vinyl-aromatic(s) (A1) and/or 1-4 C alkyl methacrylate(s) (A2), (B) 1-12 C alkyl ester(s) (B1) of alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids, other than (A2), and/or vinyl esters (B2) of aliphatic carboxylic acids and optionally (C) other alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s). The novelty is that P1 and P2 consist of the same monomers A and B and the pigment volume concentration (PVC) of the first formulation is at least 10 times higher than that of the second.     Abstract: Surprisingly aqueous preparations containing a copolymer P as completely or largely cross linked constituent comprising methacrylic acid alkyl esters, in which the bulk of methyl methacrylate monomer varies give coatings of gloss with increased stability over time. The coatings show good adhesions to mineral substrates and guarantee good protection against efflorescence. The use of an aqueous film forming preparation, for coating a mineral molded body, containing at least one copolymer P as film forming component dispersed in the preparation and ethylenically unsaturated monomers M is new. The monomer M comprises (wt. %): (i) 70-99 of at least one methacrylic acid ester with a 1-10C alkanol and (ii) 0.1-30 of at least one of different ethylenically unsaturated monomers, in which at least 50 wt. % of monomer M comprises methacrylic acid methyl ester, and at most 1 wt. % of monomer M contains two or more ethylenically unsaturated double bonds. Independent claims are included for: (1) A process for coating a mineral molded body with at least one aqueous film forming preparation; (2) a mineral molded body.
