Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning the exhaust gases of diesel engines, and especially for removal of soot particulates, utilizing series connected filter elements installed in the cross section of a housing traversed by the exhaust gas, wherein at least one filter element carrying a catalyst that lowers the ignition temperature of the soot and assists in soot burn off alternates several times with at least one filter element carrying a catalyst that assists the combustion of gaseous pollutants.

Abstract: A catalyst is disclosed for combustion of pollutants contained in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines operated with alcohol. The catalyst consists of a metal carrier, a coating deposited on it made of a catalytically active aluminum oxide and an amount of palladium deposited on said coating. A production process for the catalyst is described which provides a final activation in oxidizing atmosphere or a formation in the stream of the exhaust gas that is to be purified at certain temperatures as well as the use of the catalyst for the simultaneous elimination of aldehydes, alcohols, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons present in the exhaust gas.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for simultaneously reducing the amounts of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, i.e., the exhaust gas from petrol or diesel engines with high amounts of oxygen in the exhaust gas. A high reductive effect towards nitrogen oxides is enabled by using an aluminium silicate as a high surface area support material for the catalytically active components.

Abstract: A diesel engine gas catalyst has a zeolite with aluminum oxide or silicon dioxide, or titanium dioxide, or zirconium dioxide and aluminum silicate. The catalyst also has either platinum or rhodium and iridium. The noble metal has a median oxidation level of +2.5, with more than 3 metal ligands, and less than three oxygen ligands. Crystalline substances of average particle size 1-6 nm are present on the surface of the zeolite and substrate oxides. An Independent claim is also included for the production of the diesel exhaust catalytic converter. The ratio of the substrate oxide to the zeolite is 10:1-2:1. The mass ratio of the noble metal on the zeolite to the noble metals on the substrate oxide is 1:100-1:10. The noble metals are present in a concentration of 0.05-10 wt.% w.r.t the overall weight of the catalyst.

Abstract: The coated catalyst is made by impregnating powdered finely divided carrier material with a solution of catalyst precursor, making an aqueous dispersion of impregnated material, coating an inert support with the dispersion, drying and calcining. Production of the coated catalyst comprises: (a) impregnating powdered finely divided materials of large surface area with a solution of catalyst precursors by the method of pore volume impregnation so that the precursors are adsorbed on the material(s); (b) making an aqueous coating dispersion from the mixture; (c) coating an inert support with the dispersion; and (d) drying and calcining the coating.

Abstract: The coating dispersion is sucked through the flow channels of a monolithic catalyst support at a rate of 0.1-1 m/s. Excess dispersion is removed from the channels by applying a suction impulse from below. Extraction air is sucked at a rate of 40-1 m/s through the channels and the excess coating dispersion removed from the air stream is removed from the air stream within a time from less than 100 ms after leaving the catalyst support. Process for coating the flow channels of a monolithic cylindrical catalyst support with a coating dispersion comprises vertically directing the cylindrical axis, charging a predetermined amount of dispersion from a storage vessel to the upper front surface of the support, sucking the dispersion through the flow channels, removing excess dispersion from the channels, returning the excess dispersion to the storage vessel and fixing the dispersion by calcining. The coating dispersion is sucked through the flow channels of a monolithic catalyst support at a rate of 0.1-1 m/s. Excess dispersion is removed from the channels by applying a suction impulse from below. Extraction air is sucked at a rate of 40-1 m/s through the channels and the excess coating dispersion removed from the air stream is removed from the air stream within a time from less than 100 ms after leaving the catalyst support.
