Abstract: New dyestuff compositions of triphenylmethane dyestuffs containing no sulfo group, have been found which contain 5 to 60% of said triphenylmethane dyestuff and 40 to 95% of an oxidatively drying varnish on the basis of unsaturated compounds, of a physically drying varnish on the basis of dissolved hard resins, of a varnish which is drying by the cross-linking of low-moleuclar-weight unsaturated compounds to yield high-molecular-weight films under the action of high-energy radiation, or of a varnish prepared using conventional further additives, or of their mixtures, and optionally additional conventional dyestuff pigments, which compositions are well suited for the brightening and shading of black printing inks and pastes containing soot and do not show disturbing viscosity and thixotropy effects as often usual similar pigment compositions do.

Abstract: of the disclosure: A process for the preparation of xanthene dyestuffs of the general formula , (in which R1 and R2 are identical or different, each representing an optionally substituted aliphatic or optionally substituted araliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical, or R1 represents also a hydrogen atom or a carbocyclic aromatic or heterocyclic radical, or R1 and R2 together with the N-atom form a heterocyclic radical optionally containing further hetero-atoms, the benzene nucleus A may optionally contain substituents, and m stands for the integer 1,2, 3, 4 or zero) had been found wherein the inner salt of a 3,6-dihalogeno-9-(2'-sulfophenyl)-xanthene-9-ol of the formula (in which X stands for a halogen atom and A has the abovementioned meaning) is reacted with a primary or secondary amine of the formula , (in which R1 and R2 have the meanings specified as above) in a polar solvent which is free from acid groups; to obtain the sulfo compounds, the product is subsequently sulfonated. The improvement in this process is to carry out the reaction of the xanthenol with the amine in stoichiometrical amounts and in the presence of an inorganic acidbinding agent and/or an acid-binding tertiary aliphatic or cycloaliphatic amine, of pyridine or of a pyridine derivative. The novel process has the advantage of yielding dyestuffs of high quality with a strong color intensity and brilliancy, a high fastness to light and a uniform dyeing behaviour. Furthermore, the dyestuffs are obtained in very good yields avoiding the high charge of the waste water of present processes of the dyestuff itself or its starting components used in excess.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of hydroxycarboxylic acid amides of the general formula (1): (1) in which R1 and R2 are identical or different and are hydrogen, halogen, cyano, a linear or branched alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or alkoxy group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, an aralkyl group having 7 to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms or an aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, R3 is hydrogen or a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R4 is hydrogen or a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or R3 and R4, together with the carbon atom to which they are attached, form a five- or six-membered cycloalkane ring, and n is an integer from 1 to 12, wherein an aniline of the general formula (2) (2) in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 are as defined in the formula (1), is reacted with a hydroxycarboxylic acid of the general formula (3) (3) in which n is as defined in the formula (1), in the presence or absence of an inert solvent, at 150 to 250.degree.C, and the constituents which are volatile under the reaction conditions are distilled out of the reaction mixture.

Abstract: Process for the preparation of 4-alkylsulfonyl-1-alkyl-2-chlorobenzenes and like compounds.A process for the preparation of 4-alkyl(C1-C4)-sulfonyl-1-alkyl-2-chlorobenzenes, in very good yields and with high selectivity by selectively chlorinating a p-alkyl-benzenesulfonyl chloride with gaseous chlorine in the presence of a chlorine carrier at 50° C. to 100° C. to give a compound of the formulain which R1 is an alkyl (C1-C4) group, subsequently reducing the latter in an aqueous medium at a pH of 8 to 10 with sodium hydrogen sulfite or sodium sulfite at 40 to 90° C. to give a compound of the formulaand reacting the latter with alkyl(C1-C4) chloride in the presence of an acid binder at 80 to 150° C., and also compounds of the last mentioned formula which, instead of the -SO2Na group contain the -SO2X group (X=hydrogen atom or alkali metal atom).
