Abstract: A method and apparatus for combining space-frequency block coding (SFBC), spatial multiplexing (SM) and beamforming in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. The system includes a transmitter with a plurality of transmit antennas and a receiver with a plurality of receive antennas. The transmitter generates at least one data stream and a plurality of spatial streams. The number of generated spatial streams is based on the number of the transmit antennas and the number of the receive antennas. The transmitter determines a transmission scheme in accordance with at least one of SFBC, SM and beam forming. The transmitter transmits data in the data stream to the receiver based on the selected transmission scheme.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for implementing space frequency block coding (SFBC) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication system. The present invention is applicable to both a closed loop mode and an open loop mode. In the closed loop mode, power loading and eigen-beamforming are performed based on channel state information (CSI). A channel coded data stream is multiplexed into two or more data streams. Power loading is performed based on the CSI on each of the multiplexed data streams. SFBC encoding is performed on the data streams for each of the paired subcarriers. Then, eigen-beamforming is performed based on the CSI to distribute eigenbeams to multiple transmit antennas. The power loading may be performed on two or more SFBC encoding blocks or on each eigenmodes. Additionally, the power loading may be performed across subcarriers or subcarrier groups for weak eigenmodes.

También se divulga un aparato paraimplementar la codificacion por bloques en espacio y frecuencia (SFBC) para transmisiones multiplex por division de frecuencia ortogonal (OFDM) de entradas multiples/salidas multiples (MIMO) que emplea al método.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating channelization codes in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) using blind code detection (BCD). A WTRU receives communication bursts and detects a midamble in the received burst. A candidate code list is generated in accordance with the detected midamble. The candidate code list includes channelization codes intended for both the intended WTRU and other WTRUs. Active channelization codes among the codes in the candidate list are identified, and the identified codes are forwarded to a multi-user detector (MUD). Since the orthogonal variable spreading factor code maintains the orthogonality between codes of different SF, SFs of other WTRUs follow the SF of the intended WTRU. Moreover, since the data for other WTRUs is not used in symbol processing after MUD, the performance of MUD for the intended WTRU is preserved with the SF ambiguity of other WTRUs.

Abstract: La presente invencion se refiere a un metodo y aparato para implementar la codificacion por bloques en espacio y frecuencia (SFBC) en un sistema de comunicaciones inalambricas multiplex por division de frecuencia ortogonal (OFDM). La presente invencion se aplica tanto a un modo de bucle cerrado como a un modo de bucle abierto. En el modo de bucle cerrado, la carga de potencia y la formacion del haz propio se realizan en base a la informacion del estado del canal (CSI). Una corriente de datos codificada en el canal se multiplexa en dos o mas corrientes de datos. La carga de potencia se efectua en base a la CSI en cada una de las corrientes de datos multiplexadas. La codificacion SFBC se realiza en las corrientes de datos para cada una de las subportadoras agrupadas en pares. Luego, se realiza una formacion de haces propios en base a la CSI para distribuir los haces propios en multiples antenas de transmision. La carga de potencia puede realizarse en dos o mas bloques de codificacion SFBC o en cada modo propio. Adicionalmente, la carga de potencia puede efectuarse a traves de las subportadoras o grupos de subportadoras para modos propios debiles.
