    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a cosmetic having moisture-retention effect resistant to sweat, water washing, etc., free from stickiness to the skin and hair and giving moist feeling by compounding a specific phosphobetaine. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic contains a phosphobetaine of formula I (Z is residue obtained by removing (m+n) x OH groups from monosaccharide, oligosaccharide, sugar alcohol or glycerol; R to R are alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxyalkyl; M and M are H or cation; (m) is >=0; (n) is >=1) [e.g. alpha-D- glucopyranose-1-[Z-hydroxy-3-(N,N-dimethyl-N-octadecylammonio) propyl]phosphate]. The phosphobetaine of formula I is preferably compounded in an amount of 0.5-10wt.% based on the cosmetic. The compound can be produced e.g. by reacting a phosphoric acid ester of formula 2 with an epoxy compound of formula 3. The cosmetic is especially suitable as a wash-off type rinse and body rinse.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a clinically extremely useful therapeutic agent for hyperesthesia of dentin, composed of a zinc-containing colloid and/or zinc salt of a polyol phosphate stable within a wide pH range and capable of exhibiting high safety. CONSTITUTION:A therapeutic agent for hyperesthesia of dentin containing (A) a colloid of zinc hydroxide and/or zinc oxide obtained by mixing a water-soluble zinc salt (zinc chloride, zinc sulfate and zinc nitrate are especially preferred) with a polyol phosphate (glucose-1-phosphate, glucose-6-phosphate, mannose-6-phosphate, galactose-6-phosphate, etc., are especially preferred) and/or its salt in an aqueous medium (pH 4-10 is especially preferred) and (B) zinc salt of the polyol phosphate [the polyol phosphate is the same as those exemplified in the ingredient (A)]. Only the ingredient (A) or (B) or both may be used in the therapeutic agent. Since the therapeutic agent is low irritant and excellent in safety, the agent can be used within a wide range of products or medicines for the oral cavity. The manifestation of hyperesthetic symptoms is effectively prevented by always using the therapeutic agent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To facilitate enzymatic reaction between a liposoluble alcohol and a saccharide and to efficiently produce a glycoside by subjecting the liposoluble alcohol and the saccharide to enzymatic reaction using an amphipathic compound to both the substances. CONSTITUTION:A solvent which is an amphipathic solvent to bath a liposoluble alcohol and a saccharide is blended with 0.01-20wt.%, preferably 0.5-5wt.% (based on the solvent) of the liposoluble alcohol and the saccharide, which are subjected to enzymatic reaction to give a glycoside. Monoethylene glycol, diethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol may be cited as the concrete example of the solvent. Methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, pentanol, etc., may be cited as the concrete example of the alcohol. A preferable example of the enzyme used in the enzymatic reaction is alpha-amylase, beta-amylase or glucoamylase.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a cosmetic base, etc., on an industrial scale at a low cost by reacting a glucose-1-phosphate with maltodextrin in the presence of phosphorylase immobilized to a synthetic polymer anion-exchange resin.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To purify a trimethylol compound difficult to purify by distillation because of its high boiling point or by crystallization, by adding boric acid to a crude trimethylol compound, dissolving the reaction product in an organic solvent then isolating and hydrolyzing the salt with a base. CONSTITUTION:Boric acid is added to a trimethylol compound which is represented by the formula (R is 5-28C alkyl or alkenyl) and contains impurity to effect the reaction at room temperature to 100 deg.C. Then, the reaction product is dissolved in an organic solvent such as ethanol and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide to isolate the insoluble salt. The salt is hydrolyzed with an aqueous mineral acid or hot water to give purified trimethylol compound. The trimethylol compounds are useful as a starting substance for cosmetics, surfactants, alkyd resins, polyurethanes or polyester as well as a starting substance for a variety of esters.
