Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a resin molding having excellent specific strength, specific modulus, and impact strength and a low mechanical anisotropy by compounding a liq. crystalline polyester consisting of specific structural units with a high- molecular complex and a filler. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. liq. crystalline polyester consisting of structural units of formulas I, II, and V and structural unit of formula III and/or structural unit of formula IV is compounded with 1-200 pts. wt. at least one high-molecular complex consisting of at least one arom. dicarboxylic acid constituting structural unit V and a divalent metal atom, and 0-150 pts.wt. filler are compounded. In formulas III and V, X represents at least one group selected from the group consisting of a group of formula VI, etc.; and Y, at least one group selected from the group consisting of a group of formula V, etc. The sum of molar amts. of structural units II, III, and IV is substantially the same as the molar amt. of structural unit V.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal polyester composition having excellent heat resistance represented by good hydrolysis resistance and long period aging resistance by adding a specific amount of a carbodiimide compound to a liquid crystal polyester comprising specified structural units. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal composition comprises (A) 100 pts.wt. of an anisotropic melt phase-forming liquid crystal polyester having a thermal deformation temperature of >=150 deg.C and comprising structural units of formulas I, II and III [R1 is a group of formula IV, V, VI, etc., preferably the group of formula IV; R2 and R3 are groups of formulas IV, V, VII (X is H or Cl), etc., preferably the group of formula V], the sum of the groups of formulas I and II being 75-95mol%, the amount of the group of formula III being 25-5mol% based on the total amount of the composition and the molar ratio of the group of formula I to the group of formula II being 75/25-95/5, (B) 0.01-20 pts.wt., preferably 0.05-10 pts.wt., of a carbodiimide compound (preferably dicyclohexylcarbodiimide) and preferably further (C) 0-200 pts.wt. of a filler.

CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic liquid crystal polyester of a heat distortion temperature of 190-280 deg.C, comprising structural units of formulas I, II and III (wherein X is a group of formula IV, V, VI, or VII, or -CH2CH2-, and the carbonyl groups in each of formulas II and III are para to each other, and at least 65mol% of them are para) is prepared. 0.1-99wt.% this polyester is mixed with 99.9-1wt.% thermoplastic resin selected from among a polyamide, a polyoxymethylene, a polycarbonate, a polyarylene oxide, a polyalkylene terephthalate, a polyarylene sulfide, a polysulfone, a polyether sulfone, an amorphous polyarylate and a polyether ketone each having a heat distortion temperature of below 190 deg.C. The obtained resin composition can be molded into a film, fiber or the like.
