    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for surfactant, etc., under low hydrogen pressure at a low cost by hydrogenating oleic acid in the presence of a rhenium/tin solid catalyst exhibiting high catalytic activity and stability and produced by a specific reproducible process. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced in high selectivity by hydrogenating oleic acid with H2 under a pressure of 1-200kg/cm at 50-400 deg.C using a rhenium/tin solid catalyst prepared by using a rhenium compound and a tin compound as essential elements, adding aluminum, silicon or titanium compound to the elements, mixing the components in an organic solvent as necessary under heating to obtain a uniform solution, adding water to the solution, stirring the mixture as necessary under heating to effect the hydrolysis of the components, drying the gel produced by using the above procedures as essential procedures and, as necessary, subjecting the dried gel to calcination, reduction, etc. The above compound of aluminum, silicon or titanium is preferably alkoxide.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compounds useful as the raw material of a highly functional liquid crystal plastic, a conductive material, etc., with high selectivity and in a high yield by reacting an anthracene with an alkylating agent in the presence of a mordenite type zeolite catalyst. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of a mordenite type zeolite catalyst, preferably H-mordenite type zeolite catalyst having its ratio of silica to alumina (SiO2/Al2 O3) within a range of 5-300, an anthracene compound is made to react with an alkylating agent (preferably ethylating agent, butylating agent, especially propylating agent) without using a solvent or in a suitable solvent at 130-350 deg.C (preferably 15-250 deg.C in case of reaction with using solvent and 180-300 deg.C in case of reaction in the presence of solvent) to obtain the objective compound. Post-treatment after completion of the reaction and handling of the catalyst are ready and the catalyst can be recycled.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture a porous high dispersing metal catalyst of high performance by mixing an oxygen contained organic metal compound and easily reducing metal salt in the liquid of a polar compound having multidentate or crosslinking coordination power and then gelatinizing and heat treating said gel at low temperature. CONSTITUTION:Alcoxide such as gel aluminum and titanium, an oxygen contained organic metal compound such as a diketone compound and easily reducing metal salt such as copper, silver, iron or the like are mixed in polar compound contained solution having multidentate or crosslinking coordination power such as bivalent alcohol or amino at 10-200 deg.C. Then, the hydrolysis is carried out for the same and the whole of sol is gelatinized from uniform sol. Then, said gel is heat treated in reduced atmosphere after low temperature drying at 30-200 deg.C, to scatter a polar compound and reduce the reducing metal salt into metal. Thus, a metal catalyst highly dispersed in a multi-component non-crystalline metal oxide is manufactured, which forms the catalyst of high performance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain a high specific surface area even at a high temperature by reacting an aluminum alkoxide with hexylene glycol (2-methyl-2,4- pentanediol), then hydrolyzing the reaction product, gelatinizing the resultant sol, drying and calcining the gel. CONSTITUTION:(a) One mol aluminum alkoxide (e.g. aluminum ethoxide) is dissolved in (b) 0.5-5mol hexylene glycol (2-methyl-2,4-pentanediol) and thermally reacted at 101-200 deg.C. Water in an amount of 0.5-20mol based on 1mol component (a) is then added to hydrolyze the resultant reaction product and provide a sol, which is subsequently gelatinized, dried under a reduced pressure and calcined at >=750 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high yield and selectivity at a low cost by reacting an aromatic compound with an alkylation agent in the presence of a composite metal catalyst containing the oxides of group Va and/or group VIa metals of the periodic table and prepared by a chemical mixing method. CONSTITUTION:The subject compound such as 2,6-dialkylnaphthalene useful as a raw material for polyester having excellent performance is produced by reacting an aromatic compound such as 2-alkylnaphthalene with an alkylation agent. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a composite metal catalyst containing the oxides of group Va and and/or group VIa metals (especially V, Nb, Ta or W) of the periodic table and preferably further oxides of Si, Al and/or Zr and produced by mixing plural kinds of metal compounds in an organic solvent having coordination power and hydrolyzing the compounds. The problems of acidic waste liquid is solved and the handling of catalyst is facilitated to enable the reuse of the catalyst. The yield and selectivity of the objective compound are improved under mild reaction condition.

As an O2-contg. organic compd. to be used, the compd. contg. at least one kind selected from among hydroxyl group, carboxyl, alcoholate and carboxylate as one of the functional groups may be used. As iron compd., iron nitrate, iron chloride, iron sulfate and iron acetate, etc., are generally selected at a point of price and easy handling or the like. The kind of the element of the metallic compd. is selected according to the aimed function, for example in case of raising coercive force, metal forming ferrite, namely Co, Mn and Zn, etc., are used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title sugar alcohol-silica composite made highly functional, by mixing alkoxysilanes and sugar alcohols, adding water to gel the mixture, and occluding the sugar alcohols in the amorphous silica. CONSTITUTION:Sugar alcohols (e.g., inositol) and alkoxysilanes (e.g., tetraethoxysilane) are mixed along with a solvent and a reaction accelerator, as required. From 2-30mol water is the preferably added to 1mol of the alkoxysilane to gel the mixture. The gelled material is dried at 50-100 deg.C under reduced pressure to obtain a sugar alcohol-silica composite. The obtained composite has excellent heat stability and chemical stability, and is insoluble in water. As a result, the composite can be excellently used as an adsorption and separation agent having a molecule identifying function with high selectivity, a highly functional chromatography packing agent having a long service life, and a separating and dividing agent for geometrical optical isomers.
