Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing aspartic acid polycondensates with improved biological degradability by thermal polycondensation of finely powdered aspartic acid in solid phase, at temperatures from 180 to 250 ~C, until maximum 70 % by weight of the theoretically possible amount of water produced during polycondensation are removed from the reaction mixture. Also disclosed is the use of the thus produced polycondensates as additives for washing and cleaning agents and as scale inhibitors.
