    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield and selectivity, by reacting a diisopropenylbenzene compound with an aniline compound in the presence of a synthetic zeolite catalyst or a metallic ion exchanged montmorillonite catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A bis(p-aminocumyl)benzene compound can be produced by reacting a diisopropenylbenzene compound of formula I (Y is halogen, amino, etc.; m is 0-4) with an aniline compound of formula II (R1 and R2 are H or 1-3C alkyl; X is halogen or 1-3C alkyl; n is 0-4) in the presence of a synthetic zeolite catalyst of formula III (e.g. zeolite-X, zeolite-Y, zeolite-L, mordenite, etc.) or a metallic ion exchanged montmorillonite catalyst. The objective compound useful as a raw material of synthetic resins such as polyamide, polyimide, etc., or as a dye can be produced in high yield and selectivity by the use of the above catalyst.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:In the oxidation of an alcohol into the corresponding carbonyl compound, an ion-exchange type laminar clay catalyst is used to effect the oxidation with oxygen to economically improve the yield without use of an oxidizing reagent such as a permanganate salt. CONSTITUTION:An ion-exchange type laminar clay is used as a catalyst to oxidize an alcohol with molecular oxygen to give the corresponding carbonyl compound. The reaction temperature is generally 20-250 deg.C, preferably 50-180 deg.C and the pressure is normal or elevated. The ion-exchange type laminar clay is prepared by exchanging at least a part of alkali metal ions such as sodium ions in the laminar clay with other metal ions. The laminar clay is preferably a fluorine-containing synthetic mica. On the reaction, the amount of the catalyst is 0.001-3pts.wt., preferably 0.01-0.5pt.wt. per 1pt.wt. of the alcohol.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an acylphenol compound useful as agricultural chemicals, photographic chemicals, UV-absorbers, etc., with simple operation, in high yield and selectivity, by reacting a carboxylic acid aromatic ester in the presence of an ion-exchanging lamellar clay catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A carboxylic acid aromatic ester such as phenyl benzoate, alpha- naphthyl benzoate, etc. is made to react in the presence of the ion-exchanging lamellar clay catalyst such as synthetic mica, montmorillonite, vermiculite, etc., preferably in lquid phase at 100-350 deg.C, preferably at 150-250 deg.C for 0.1-10hr under reduced pressure, atmospheric pressure or positive pressure to obtain an acylphenol such as hydroxybenzophenone, phenyl alpha-naphthoate, etc. EFFECT:The objective compound can be produced without using a large amount of catalyst, and using a simplified separation and purification process prior to the hydrolysis of the reaction product.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an acylphenol compound useful as agricultural chemicals, photographic chemicals, UV-absorbers, etc., economically in an industrial scale, in one step, with an extremely simple process, by reacting a phenolic compound with a carboxylic acid in the presence of ion-exchanging lamellar caly catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The phenolic compound of formula (R is H, OH, alkyl, akloxy, aryl, NO2 or halogen; m is 1, 2 or 3; X and Y are H or X and Y together with bonded C atom form substituted or unsubstituted naphthalene ring) is made to react with a carboxylic acid in the presence of an ion-exchanging lamellar clay catalyst such as synthetic mica, montmorillonite, vermiculite, etc., usually at 100-350 deg.C, preferably 150-250 deg.C, preferably in liquid phase, and preferably removing the produced water from the reaction system at need. The acylphenol compound corresponding to the raw material can be produced in high yield with simple operation compared with the conventional process.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance useful as a raw material of synthetic polymers and organic chemicals, from a hydroquinone compound, easily, without producing by-products, by using a montmorillonite catalyst wherein a specific amount of the exchangeable ion is composed of a specific metallic ion other than alkali metal ion. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is produced by reacting a hydroquinone compound or a hydroquinone compound and a monohydric phenol in the presence of preferably 5-40%, based on the raw materials, of a montmorillonite catalyst wherein at least 10mol% of the ion exchange capacity is attributable to a metallic ion other than alkali metal ion, e.g. aluminum ion, titanium ion, chromium ion, zirconium ion, etc. The reaction is carried out by using an alkylbenzene such as toluene, xylene, etc. as the solvent, at a raw material concentration of 5-20% at about 20-200 deg.C.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain 4-hydroxycyclohexanone useful as a raw material for various medicines, industrial chemicals, etc., by carrying out hydrogenation of hydroquinone in the presence of a specific catalyst. SOLUTION: Hydroquinone is hydrogenated by using a palladium activated carbon supporting catalyst obtained by supporting a palladium catalyst on activated carbon in a hydrocarbon solvent (e. g. mesitylene) in the presence of a compound having an acid catalytic action at 50-300 deg.C under 1-20 atmospheric pressure to give 4-hydroxycyclohexanone. The activated carbon used as the catalyst is the one obtained by steam activation treatment of wood and has 1,100-1,300m /g specific surface area. Preferably, the catalyst is reduced in hydrogenation activity by sulfur poisoning. A synthetic mica having a solid acid point is preferably used as the compound having an acid catalytic action. The objective substance is obtained under safe and mild conditions and is readily separated and extracted from the reaction solution after the completion of the reaction.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To produce a catalyst which can give a high-molecular-weight polyolefin having a narrow molecular weight distribution and a narrow compositional distribution by using a specified transition metal compound as the effective component. CONSTITUTION: An olefin polymerization catalyst is obtained by using a catalyst component comprising a transition metal compound of the formula (wherein M is a group IVb, Vb or VIb transition metal atom; R to R are each H, halogeno, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group or a 1-20C halohydrocarbon group, provided that any of the two adjoining groups of them may be combined with each other to form an aromatic or alicyclic ring containing the atoms to which they are bonded; X and X are each H, halogeno, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a 1-20C halohydrocarbon group or an O- or S-containing group; and Y is a 1-20C bivalent saturated hydrocarbon group, a 1-20C bivalent saturated halohydrocarbon group or a bivalent Si-, Ge- or Sn-containing group). This catalyst can give a high-molecular-weight polyolefin having a narrow molecular weight distribution and a narrow compositional distribution.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound corresponding to an arylalkylhydrocarbon at a high selectivity and practical reaction rate by using a transition metal complex having a nitrogen-containing ligand as a catalyst and oxidizing the arylalkylhydrocarbon by an oxygen-containing gas. CONSTITUTION: A arylalkylalcohol corresponding to an arylalkylhydrocarbon is obtained by oxidizing (A) the arylalkylhydrocarbon (preferably, cumene, cymene, m-diisopropylbenzene or an isopropylnaphthalene, etc.) of the formula (P and Q are each H or an alkyl; (n) is an integer of 1-3; Ar is an n-functional aromatic hydrocarbon group) with (B) an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of (C) a transition metal complex catalyst having a nitrogen-containing ligand. As the nitrogen-containing ligand of the component C, especially porphyrins or phthalocyanines, etc., are preferable and as the transition metal complex, especially those with manganese (II) or iron (II) ions are preferable. The component C is used in an amount of 0.0001-5.0 pts.wt., preferably 0.001-1.0 pt.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the component A.
