Abstract: PURPOSE:To facilitate centering of a core and to permit prevention of movement of the core and production of an FRM having a uniform thickness by mounting spacers having molten metal passages hole to at least the top end part of the core and fixing the position of the core by said spacers. CONSTITUTION:An assemblage 6 of reinforcing fibers is disposed around the round bar-shaped core 5 and is put into a metallic mold 7. The spacers 1 are mounted to the top and bottom end parts of the core 5 to fix the core by screwing the internal screw threads worked to the positioning holes thereof onto the external screw threads provided to the core. A melt 8 of a metal to serve as a matrix is then poured into a metallic mold 7 and is pressurized by a plunger 9. Then, the molten metal 8 flows through the molten metal passage holes 3 of the spacers and is impregnated into the assemblage 6. The mold 7 and a pedestal 10 are separated, upon solidification of the molten metal 8. The FRM is thereafter taken out together with the core 5 from the mold 7. The spacers 1 are then removed and the core 5 is removed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the productivity and to save the energy consumption by arranging an aggregate of reinforcing fibers around a core metal having large coefficient of thermal expansion inserting nonsintering material or water soluble metallic oxide and pouring the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The aggregate 2 of reinforcing fibers is formed around the core metal 8 having coefficient of thermal expansion larger than FRM and inserted into inner part of a metallic tube 4 and arranged in a metallic mold 1. Powder or granule of the non-sintering material 3 or the metallic oxide having water solubility is packed into gap between the metallic mold 1 and metallic tube 4. Next, the molten metal 5 for matrix metal is poured into the metallic tube 4 and pressured by a plunger 6 and impregnated in the aggregate 2 to obtain FRM tube. As the coefficient of thermal expansion of the core metal 8 is large and the non-sintering material 3 or water soluble metallic oxide is easily removed, taking-out of the product is facilitated and the productivity is improved. By miniaturization of the metallic mold 1, the heating quantity is reduced and energy consumption is saved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the title method to improve mechanical characteristics and to give conductive characteristics, by a method wherein a metallic coating is formed on a treated surface after application of etching treatment to the surface by exposing a part of a metal coated reinforcing fiber by applying polishing or grinding to the surface of fiber reinforced plastics. CONSTITUTION:At least a part of a metal coated reinforcing fiber 4 of a surface layer part is exposed by applying polishing or grinding to the surface of FRP 5. Then etching treatment is applied to the polished or ground surface of the FRP 5 with acid such as nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, as well as alkali such as sodium hydroxide. Then a metallic coating 3 of the metal coated reinforcing fiber 4 which is exposed to the surface is eluted, and a recession is formed on the eluted part. Then a coating 6 of a metal is formed on the surface to which etching treatment has been applied. The coating 6 enters into the recession of the part eluted by the etching treatment of the metallic coating 3, and bonded firmly to the FRP 5 through an anchoring effect.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the productivity of a fiber reinforced metallic composite material (FRM) by winding continuous fibers or woven fabrics of reinforcing fibers to an assemblage of the long fibers, short fibers, etc. of the reinforcing fibers. CONSTITUTION:The continuous fibers of the reinforcing fibers are passed through a resin bath to stick the resin thereto. Such fibers are cut and the formed long fibers are heated to carbonize the resin. The mixture composed of the short fibers or whiskers of the reinforcing fibers and the resin is otherwise plastically molded in a mold and is then heated to carbonize the resin. The porous assemblage 1 bound with the reinforcing fibers to each other by the carbide is obtd. by the above-mentioned method. The continuous fibers or woven fabrics 2 of the reinforcing fibers are further wound on the assemblage 1 to form a preform material. The preform material is subjected to a high- pressure casting method of a molten metal, by which the need for cutting away the container after the production of the FRM is eliminated and the productivity thereof is improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable easy production of a long-sized material as well with a high- pressure casting method of a fiber-reinforced metallic composite material by impregnating and compounding a metal with a reinforcing fiber aggregate in a high- pressure casting device while drawing said aggregate. CONSTITUTION:A vertically long mold 1 having the pressurizing part in the part where a plunger 3 is installed, a cavity 7 and a drawing part of a nozzle 4 is used and the cavity 7 is heated with a heating device 2 at approximately the center of said mold. A continuous fiber bundle 6 of reinforcing fibers is first inserted into the pressurizing part of the mold 1, the cavity 7 and the drawing part. A molten metal 8 which is a matrix is then poured into the cavity 7 and thereafter the molten metal 8 is pressurized with the plunger 3 to impregnate the metal 8 in the bundle 6, thereby compounding the metal and the fiber bundle. Since only the cavity 7 of the mold 1 is heated, the metal solidifies in the pressurizing part and the drawing part and acts as a seal, thereby obviating leakage of the molten metal 8. The bundle 6 in the drawing part where the molten metal solidifies and the compounding is completed is drawn by drawing rolls 5, by which the long-sized composite body is obtd.
