    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a polyethylene filament having specific molecular weight, N/C atomic ratio, tensile strength, initial modulus, dynamic visco-elastic characteristics and small angle X-ray scattering characteristics, useful as a light-weight reinforcing material for polar polymeric matrix material and exhibiting high adhesive strength. CONSTITUTION:The objective polyethylene filament has a weight-average molecular weight of >=1,000,000; ratio of the number of oxygen atom to nitrogen atom of 0.03-0.15 on the filament surface (determined by ESCA); a single filament tensile strength of >=40g/d; a single filament initial modulus of >=1,200g/d; the height of gamma-dispersion peak of tandelta of =600g/d (at 100 deg.C) determined by dynamic viscoelastic measurement; and is free from long-period structure by small-angle X-ray scattering. The filament can be produced by drawing a filament produced by a spinning method characterized by the coagulation after gelation and passing through a low- temperature plasma generated in vapor of ammonia or a nitrogen-containing organic compound having low boiling point.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the adhesiveness with a photosensitive resin being a masking resin and to enhance durability by eliminating the detachment of the masking resin during use, by enhancing the concn. of the oxygen-containing functional group bonded to the polyester molecular chain on the surface of a polyester filament constituting a screen. CONSTITUTION:The number of the oxygen-containing functional groups bonded to the molecular chain on the surface of a polyester filament are increased by plasma treatment. As the oxygen-containing functional group, there are a carbonyl group, a carboxyl group, a hydroxy group and a hydroxyperoxide group etc. The surface concn. of the functional group on the basis of a ESCA measured value is pref. set to 0.42-0.52 in a OIS/CIS atomic number ratio (mol number of an oxygen atom to a mol of a carbon atom). A photosensitive resin is applied to this screen cloth and dried to prepare a screen with an emulsion thickness of 7mu and exposure, developing and drying processes are performed according to a usual method to obtain screen cloth for masking used in the production of an IC circuit.
