The plate is circular or polygonal, plane or concave. It may be formed from Mo powder and compressed with the mixture at 3000 kg./ cm. 2 . The cathode is heated in H 2 at 1750 C., degassed at 1600 C. and activated at 1500 C. One or more zig-zag or spiral W filaments may be used, connected to Fe-Ni-Co alloy leads 2, 3. The cathode is used in electron microscopes.
