    Abstract: Stabilised aqueous C14- to C22-alkyldiketene emulsions containing, as essential components, (a) 10 to 60 % by weight of at least one C14- to C22-alkyldiketene, (b) 1 to 10 % by weight of at least one protective colloid and (c) 0.1 to 20 % by weight of at least one ester of the formula in which R , R are C14- to C22-alkyl, in which case R and R must differ in the alkyl group by at least 4 C atoms, and/or denote identical or different C14- to C22-alkenyl groups, an ester of the formula R -O-CO-O-R (II), in which R and R are alkyl or alkenyl radicals having 2 to 22 C atoms or a urethane of the formula in which R , R and R are identical or different alkyl or alkenyl radicals having 2 to 22 C atoms, and the use of the compounds of the formula I to III as stabiliser for the preparation of alkyldiketene emulsions containing at least 10, preferably 16 to 40 % by weight of alkyldiketene in emulsified form.

    Abstract: Sizes for paper are based on finely divided aqueous dispersions of copolymers which are obtainable by copolymerization of from 10 to 56 parts by weight of a monomer mixture of (a) from 20 to 65% by weight of (meth)acrylonitrile, (b) from 35 to 80% by weight of one or more acrylates of monohydric, saturated C3-C8-alcohols and (c) from 0 to 10% by weight of other ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomers by an emulsion polymerization method in 100 parts by weight of an aqueous solution of from 1.7 to 25% by weight of a degraded starch having a viscosity eta i of from 0.12 to 0.50 dl/g, at from 40 DEG to 100 DEG C. in the presence of a peroxide-containing initiator.
