    Abstract: This invention relates to novel 2 - Substitued 1 (3'-amino-alkyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-.beta.-carbolines of the formula where n is an integer from 2 to 5, R is hydrogen, halogen, trifluoromethyl, C1-C4-alkyl or C1-C4-alkoxy, R2 is hydrogen or C1-C3-alkyl, R3 is C1-C3-acyl, R4 is hydrogen or an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical of not more than 4 carbon atoms ans R5 is hydrogen or an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical of not more than 4 carbon atoms and, where R is hydrogen, R5 may furthermore be C1-C4-hydroxyalkyl or C2-C4- aminoalkyl in which the amine nitrogen atom can be substituted by C1-C3-alkyl or can form part of a 5-membered, 6-membered or 7-membered saturated ring, or R4 and R5, together with the nitrogen atom, form a 5-membered, 6-membered or 7-membered saturated ring which can be substituted by one or more C1-C3-alkyl groups, a hydroxyl group and/or a phenyl group, and to their preparation. These novel substances have powerful antiarrhythmic action that make them particularly useful for the pharmac therapy of cardiac arrhythmias.
