Abstract: A method and apparatus for radio resources control in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system are disclosed. Radio resources are controlled by producing and applying a respective adaptive modulation and coding to each data stream. Applying a respective transmit power level to that data stream and mapping that data stream to a plurality of antennas. Each of the plurality of data streams are transmitted over different subcarriers, has a different adaptive modulation and coding (AM&C) and a different transmit power than others of the plurality of data streams.

Una senal modulada es recibida desde el Nodo B a través del canal de comunicación y se lleva a cabo una estimación de canal en la senal modulada para proveer un estimado de canal. en una forma de realización, la senal modulada es demodulada en base al estimado de canal para proveer una senal demodulada y se obtiene un estimado de relación entre senal e interferencia (SIR) en base a la senal demodulada. La calidad del canal de comunicación es estimada en base al menos al estimado de SIR. En una forma de realización alternativa, se obtiene un estimado de SIR en base al estimado de canal. La calidad del canal de comunicación es estimada en base al estimado de SIR y a información adicional que incluye al menos uno entre información de velocidad de WTRU, distorsión de retardo y potencia de transmisión.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting the phase and gain of data associated with a constellation pattern of a plurality of received individual symbols. Each symbol is divided into real and imaginary symbol components. The signs of the real and imaginary symbol components of each symbol are determined and used as a basis for determining whether the symbol is associated with a firs t or third quadrant of the constellation pattern or a second or fourth quadran t of the constellation pattern. The absolute values of the real and imaginary symbol components are determined and used to create a first sum and a second sum. A phase adjustment value ? and a gain adjustment value G are derived from the first and second sums, and are used to create a complex number. Each of the received individual symbols is multiplied by the created complex number to provide corrected constellation pattern data.

Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) with improved performance through channel quality prediction employing link adaption techniques including a receiver which makes selective measurements on downlink transmissions, and then stores one or more of the measurements or a channel quality indicator derived therefrom. The receiver then retrieves one or more of the past measurements (or the past channel quality estimates themselves), and combines it with current measurements (or the current channel quality estimate), to predict what the channel quality will be at some future time and derive a predictive channel quality indicator (CQI). This predictive CQI, derived from both current channel measurements and at least one past channel measurement, is then sent to the transmitter for use in updating transmission parameters.

Abstract: Enhanced methods for channel quality estimation utilize soft symbol output data to generate a statistic or set of statistics that are representative of BER for each of a plurality of bursts corresponding to a composite channel. The statistics are mapped into a BER estimate to generate individual BER estimates for each of the plurality of bursts. The individual BER estimates are combined to obtain an estimate of the BER for the entire composite channel. Alternatively, the BER estimate for the composite channel may then be mapped into a quality estimate for the composite channel using a monotonic function.

Abstract: A method and wireless communication system for providing channel assignment information used to support an uplink (UL) channel and a downlink (DL) channel. The system includes at least one Node-B and at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The WTRU communicates with the Node-B via a common control channel, the UL channel and the DL channel. The WTRU receives a message from the Node-B via the common control channel. The message includes an indication of whether the message is intended for assigning radio resources to the UL channel or the DL channel. The WTRU determines whether the message is intended for the WTRU and, if so, the WTRU determines whether the message is for assigning radio resources to the UL channel or the DL channel. The WTRU takes an appropriate action based on whether the message is for assigning radio resources to the UL channel or the DL channel.
