    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a powder for water-repellent cosmetics low in treating temperatures and excellent in cosmetic performances by using a specific carboxyl group-modified organo(poly)siloxane as a surface-treating agent for the powder. SOLUTION: This powder is treated with a carboxyl group-modified organo(poly)siloxane whose at least one silicon atom is modified with a group of formula I (R is a 1-20C alkylene; R is a 1-4C alkylene; M is H, a monovalent cation; (a) is 0, 1). As the carboxyl group-modified organo(poly)siloxane, a compound of formula II (R -R are each an alkyl, an alkoxy, phenyl; at least one of X, b number of Y and Z is the group of formula I and the rests are each an alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl; (b) is 0-1,000) is preferred. The powder is, for example, talc, kaolin, sericite, mica, zinc white, titania, barium sulfate or iron oxide. The prepared cosmetic is excellent in application feeling such as spreadability on, adhesion to and smoothness of shin.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a new unsaturated fatty acid amide becoming a lyotropic liquid crystal in the presence of water at room temperature, excellent in lubrici ty, compatibility with solvents and homogeneous dispersibility in water, etc., thus useful as a base for hair or skin cosmetics, emulsifier or lubricant. CONSTITUTION: This new compound is expressed by formula I (R is a 5-24C alkenyl such as oleoyl or elaidoyl), e.g. N-tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl oleamide. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a compound of the formula RCOOH with tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane in an inert solvent or in the absence of any solvent at 100-250 deg.C (esp. 130-220 deg.C) to form a compound of formula II, which is then hydrolyzed in a mixed solvent of a l-6C lower alcohol, and water at 50-150 deg.C (esp. 70-120 deg.C).

CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula III is produced by reacting (A) a compound of formula, R1 -OH [R1 is a 1-24C (branched)alkyl, an alkenyl or a cycloalkyl] with (B) a compound of formula I (X is a halogen) in the presence of (C) a base such as alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate, hydride or alkylate and reacting the resultant compound of formula II with (D) a compound of formula, R2 -COOR3 [R2 is a 1-23C (branched)alkyl or an alkenyl; R3 is H, CH3 or C2 H5 ] or a compound of formula, R2 -COCI. The amounts of the components C and A are preferably 0.5-10 times equivalent and 1-1,000 times equivalent based on the component B, respectively.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound capable of forming a thermotropic liquid crystal in water disperse system, soluble in almost all solvents, having good dispersibility to water, exhibiting very excellent lubricating properties and useful as a emulsifier, a lubricating agent, a liquid forming agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R is 16-36C branched alkyl; R to R are H or 16-36C branched alkyl), e.g. 1mol isostearyl ether adduct of pentaerythritol of formula II. This compound is obtained by reacting pentaerythritol or its branched alkyl ether with a branched alkyl halide of the formula R X (X is halogen) (preferably branched alkyl bromide such as isostearyl bromide or heptyldecyl bromide) in the presence of a basic substance (preferably NaOH, etc.), preferably at 80-150 deg.C. Furthermore, this reaction is preferably carried out by dissolving or dispersing the compound of formula II in an organic solvent such as methanol and then adding a branched alkyl halide thereto while removing water content.

The cosmetic can be made into a dosage form such as creamy, solid or powdery dosage form. The cosmetic has softness to skin and hair and no greasiness, provides moist and good touch and is suitable especially for rinse and body rise used by washing and flowing.
