    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject corresponding hydroperoxide in high selectivity at high reaction rate, by oxidizing an arylalkyl hydrocarbon with ah oxygen- contg. gas in the presence of a metallocene complex catalyst. CONSTITUTION: This hydroperoxide is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II (P and Q are each H or an alkyl; x is 1-3; Ar is a x-valent aromatic hydrocarbon) with an oxygen-contg. gas (e.g. air) under atmospheric pressure at 40-120 deg.C using a catalyst, a metallocene complex of formula I (R -R are each H, an alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl; M is a transition metal; X is a halogen; (n) is 1-4; (m) i s 0-4), as necessary, in the Presence of a basic compound or its aqueous solution. The amount of the catalyst to be used is 0.00001-5 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the compound of formula II.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a new transition metallic compound, having a specific structure and excellent polymerization activity and capable of producing a polyolefin, having narrow molecular weight and composition distributions, high stereoregularity and excellent in heat resistance and rigidity. CONSTITUTION:The new transition metallic compound is expressed by the formula (M is group IVa, Va or VIa transition metal; R and R are H, halogen, 1-20C hydrocarbon, etc.; R to R are H, halogen, etc.; at least one set of R and R , R and R and R and R is mutually bound to form aromatic ring; X and X are H, oxygen-containing group, etc.; Y is divalent silicon-containing group, S, NR , etc.; R is H, etc.). This transition metallic compound is used as a catalyst component for polymerizing an olefin. The compound may be blended with a compound, reactive therewith and forming an ion pair and an organoaluminumoxy compound for use. Furthermore, an organoaluminum compound may be added. The catalyst for polymerizing the olefin is obtained by blending a solid catalyst component containing this transition metallic compound and at least one selected from the organoaluminumoxy compound and the compound, reactive with the transition metallic compound and forming the ion pair supported on a fine particulate carrier with, as necessary, the organoaluminum compound and an olefinic polymer produced by prepolymerization.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a new quinone compound stable against heat, not having sublimating property and an irritating smell, and useful as a functional chemical. CONSTITUTION:A quinone compound of formula I [A, B are hydrocarbon group, R -CO, R -O-CO, R R N-CO, R -SO2, R R R Si (R to R are H, hydrocarbon group). The compound of formula I is produced by thermally dimerizing 1,2- naphthoquinone into dinaphthyldiquinhydrone in the presence of an acid, and subsequently reacting the produced compound with a reagent containing a suitable nucleating agent such as a compound of formula II [X is C, SO; Y is hydrocarbon group, OR, NRR (R is hydrocarbon group)] (e.g. tosyl chloride), a compound of formula III (e.g. acetic anhydride), a compound of formula IV (e.g. diphenyl carbonate), etc. The compound of formula I is useful as a color- developing agent, an intermediate for dyestuffs, pigments, medicines, agricultural chemicals, rubber chemicals, etc., an oxidizing agent, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a color forming recording material having high absorption within the range from a visible region to a near infrared region and having a high light resistance by providing a recording layer containing a azo compd. represented by a specific general formula and an acidic substance on a support. CONSTITUTION:A predetermined amt. of an azo compd. represented by formula I (wherein X is H, an amino group, an alkyl group or an acyl group, Y is H, halogen, an alkyl group or an aryl group, m is a natural number of 4 or less and A and B are H, an alkyl group or an aralkyl group) and a predetermined amt. of an acidic substance are mixed. The obtained mixture is compounded with an aqueous soln. of a binder such as polyvinyl alcohol and ground to prepare a coating soln. This coating soln. is applied to a support such as fine paper and dried to form a recording layer, thus obtaining a color forming recording material. As a concrete example of the azo compd., there is 4-aminoazobenzene or 4-(N-methylamino)azobenzene and, as examples of the acidic substance, there are phenol, naphthol, acid clay, kaolin and the like.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the 2.6-, 2.7-, 1.6- and 1.7-isomers of the subject compound in high selectivity by methylating naphthalene or monoalkylnaphthalene with a polymethylnaphthalene having many methyl groups as a methylating agent. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalene or a monoalkylnaphthalene is methylated with a polymethylnaphthalene having five or more methyl groups as methylating agent at -10 to 250 deg.C for 10min to 8hr to produce the subject compound in high selectivity. The methylating agent is preferably hepta- and octa-methyl naphthalene and used in an amount of 0.2-6 times moles that of the raw material. The reaction is performed in the presence of an acid catalyst such as a protonic acid or a Lewis acid in an amount of 0.01-60 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the raw material. 2.6- and 2.7-isomers are obtained from naphthalene or the 2-alkylnaphthalene, while 1.6- and 1.7-isomers are obtained from the 1- alkylnaphthalene.
