    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain polyester composition which gives a film excellent in traveling characteristics and abrasion resistance by incorporating specified polyimide particles into a polyester. CONSTITUTION:A polyester comprising, e.g. a homopolyester such as polyethylene terephthalate or a copolyester composed mainly thereof is mixed with polyimide particles having a mean particle diameter of 0.01-3mum and a strength (S10), at 10% deformation under an external force, of 3-30kgf/mm . Examples of the polyimide include those having a structure of any one of formulas I to V. It can easily be produced in particulate for by a known process; i.e. a tetracarboxylic acid anhydride is reacted with a diamine in an appropriate organic solvent to synthesize a polyimide precursor comprising a polyamic acid, and the obtained product is precipitated in a poor solvent for the polyamic acid, such as methanol, to form particles. The amount of the polyimide particles to be incorporated should be 0.01-5 wt.% based on the polyester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polyester film improved in abrasion resistance by melt extruding a polyester compsn. contg. agglomerates formed from primary particles with a specified mean diameter to thereby form a film contg. agglomerates with a mean diameter smaller than that of the agglomerates before the melt extrusion. CONSTITUTION:A polyester compsn., e.g. a polyalkylene terephthalate compsn., contg. agglomerates with a mean diameter of 50-2,000mum and formed from primary particles, such as of ZrO2, with a mean diameter of 1-50mum is melt extruded with e.g. a Dulmage type screw extruder at the m.p. of the polyester or higher but not higher than the m.p. plus 60 deg.C, giving a polyester film contg. 0.05-5wt.% agglomerates with a mean diameter of 30-500mum. The film is stretched longitudinally and transversely and thermaly set to give a biaxially oriented polyester film.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain at good productivity the polyethylene naphthalate composition which can give moldings reduced in the formation of streaky defects on a film surface or reduced in the formation of yarn breaks and having good durability by continuously polycondensing bis(hydroxyethyl) naphthalate. CONSTITUTION:Bis(hydroxyethyl) naphthalate is continuously polycondensed to obtain the polyethylene naphthalate composition which is a polyester mainly consisting of repeating ethylene naphthalate units, has a terminal carboxyl contentretion of 40 eq./10 g or below and diethylene glycol content of 1.3wt.% or below. When the terminal carboxyl concentration is above 40eq./10 g, the effect of reducing the formation of streaky defects during film formation and the formation of yarn breaks during spinning is not sufficient. When the ethylene glycol content is above 1.3wt.%, the effect of reducing the formation of streaky defects during film formation and the formation of yarn breaks during spinning is not sufficient.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an aromatic polyester composition useful for obtaining biaxially oriented films having excellent scratch resistance, running properties, and surface evenness by incorporating specific composite particles. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition contains composite particles composed of inactive particles having a positive zeta-potential in pure water (e.g. Al2O3) and inactive particles having a negative zeta-potential in pure water. The latter particles consist, for example, of an aromatic dicarboxylate (e.g. bis(beta- hydroxyethyl) terephthalate or a low-molecular polymer thereof), an alkali (alkaline earth) metal compound (e.g. lithium acetate), and a phosphorus compound (e.g. trimethyl phosphate or phosphorous acid).
