An extract of Sicyos angulatus L. is provided to have excellent herbicidal activity, thereby being used as a herbicidal composition. The method for separating a herbicidal plant extract from Sicyos angulatus L. comprises the steps of: (a) extracting Sicyos angulatus L. with an organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, and pentanol and then drying it; (b) dissolving the product obtained from the step(a) in dichloromethane to obtain a dichloromethane fraction; (c) subjecting the dichloromethane fraction to column chromatography using a mixture solution of hexane, dichloromethane, ethylacetate and methanol, wherein the volumetric ratio thereof is 4:1:6:0.5, to obtain a DA fraction having the herbicidal activity; (d) subjecting the DA fraction to column chromatography using a mixture solution of ethylacetate, dichloromethane, hexane and methanol, wherein the volumetric ratio thereof is 4:1:3:0.5, to obtain a DAB fraction having the herbicidal activity; and (e) subjecting the DAB fraction to column chromatography using a mixture solution of ethylacetate, hexane and methanol, wherein the volumetric ratio thereof is 9:1:0.1 to obtain a DABB fraction having the herbicidal activity.
Abstract:
An herbicidal substance, elemicin, purified from Asarum sieboldii Miq. and a preparation method thereof are provided to serve a novel herbicide having different chemical structure compared with conventional herbicides, so that it will be a lead compound for development of new herbicides. The method for preparing the elemicin having herbicidal effects purified from Asarum sieboldii Miq. comprises the steps of: (a) extracting Asarum sieboldii Miq. with methanol and drying the extract; (b) dissolving the methanol extract of Asarum sieboldii Miq. in hexane to prepare a hexane fraction; (c) subjecting the hexane fraction to column chromatography using hexane-ethylacetate-methanol solution(5:1:0.1 v/v/v) to obtain HB fraction; (d) subjecting the HB fraction to column chromatography using hexane-ethylacetate-methanol solution(9:1:0.5 v/v/v) to obtain HBB fraction; (e) subjecting the HBB fraction to column chromatography using hexane-ethylacetate solution(5:5 v/v) to obtain HBBA fraction; and (f) subjecting the HBBA fraction to affinity column chromatography using methanol-acetonitrile solution(9:1 v/v) to obtain HBBAA fraction.

An extract of Epimedium koreanum Nakai comprising fractions of EADBA, RADBB and EADBC is provided to show high herbicidal activity, thereby being applicable as a natural herbicidal agent. The method comprises the steps of: (a) extracting Epimedium koreanum Nakai with an organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, and pentanol and then drying it; (b) dissolving the product obtained from the step(a) in ethylacetate to obtain an ethylacetate fraction; (c) subjecting the ethylacetate fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of ethylacetate, dichloromethane, and methanol so as to obtain an EA fraction having the herbicidal activity; (d) subjecting the EA fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of ethylacetate, dichloromethane, and methanol so as to obtain a EAD fraction having the herbicidal activity; (e) subjecting the EAD fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of methanol, acetonitrile, and water to obtain a EADB fraction having the herbicidal activity; and (f) subjecting the EADB fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of methanol and water so as to obtain a EADBA fraction, a EADBB fraction or a EADBC fraction having the herbicidal activity. The herbicidal composition comprises the extract obtained from the Epimedium koreanum Nakai.
