    Abstract: An extract of Epimedium koreanum Nakai comprising fractions of EADBA, RADBB and EADBC is provided to show high herbicidal activity, thereby being applicable as a natural herbicidal agent. The method comprises the steps of: (a) extracting Epimedium koreanum Nakai with an organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, and pentanol and then drying it; (b) dissolving the product obtained from the step(a) in ethylacetate to obtain an ethylacetate fraction; (c) subjecting the ethylacetate fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of ethylacetate, dichloromethane, and methanol so as to obtain an EA fraction having the herbicidal activity; (d) subjecting the EA fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of ethylacetate, dichloromethane, and methanol so as to obtain a EAD fraction having the herbicidal activity; (e) subjecting the EAD fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of methanol, acetonitrile, and water to obtain a EADB fraction having the herbicidal activity; and (f) subjecting the EADB fraction to absorption column chromatography using a mixture solution of methanol and water so as to obtain a EADBA fraction, a EADBB fraction or a EADBC fraction having the herbicidal activity. The herbicidal composition comprises the extract obtained from the Epimedium koreanum Nakai.
