    Abstract: PURPOSE: A novel gene encoding Paralichthys olivaceus-derived antibacterial peptide, bea-defensin is provided to ensure pivotal immune response function and to be used in developing natural antibiotics. CONSTITUTION: A Paralichthys olivaceus-derived antibacterial polypeptide comprises: a polypeptide encoded by cDNA having one of nucleic acid sequence among sequence numbers 1-5; a polypeptide encoded by gDNA having one of nucleic acid among sequence numbers 6-10; or a polypeptide having one of amino acid sequence among sequence numbers 11-15. The antibacterial polypeptide is anionic. Antibiotics or feed additives contain the antibacterial polypeptide, mutant thereof, or active fragment thereof as an active ingredient.
