PURPOSE: An anticancer compound isolated from Asparagus oligoclonos Maxim. and a purification method thereof are provided. The isolated compound has improved anticancer activity. CONSTITUTION: An anticancer compound is isolated from Asparagus oligoclonos Maxim, and includes (25S)-5β-spirostan-3β, 17α-diol-3-0-β- D-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)- £α -L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)|-β- D-glucopyranoside represented by formula 1. A method for extracting the anticancer compound of the formula 1 comprises the steps of: repeatedly extracting Asparagus oligoclonos Maxim. using an organic solvent, followed by solvent-distribution; and subjecting the extract of Asparagus oligoclonos Maxim. to chromatography.

CONSTITUTION: 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde prevents or treats cryptococcosis. An alkoxy group of 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde has 1-9 carbon atoms. 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde is selected from the group consisting of 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde, and 2-hydroxy-3-ethoxybenzaldehyde. A composition for preventing or treating cryptococcosis contains 2-hydroxy-3-alkoxybenzaldehyde.
