    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for measuring a walking distance are provided to determine a mounting position thereof according to whether a walking is detected based on an output signal from a gyro-sensor. An apparatus for measuring a walking distance includes a walking detector(32), a mounting position detector(34), and a walking distance estimator(36).     Abstract: A method and an apparatus for detecting a step in a personal navigator are provided to increase operation reliability of the personal navigator by recognizing separately a normal step and a marking time. An apparatus for detecting a step in a personal navigator includes an accelerometer(110) and a step detector(120). The accelerometer outputs acceleration signals in at least two directions as a user moves.
