    Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for calculating a trigonometric function using a linear equation is provided to reduce an error range through a linear equation, thereby promptly generating video of better quality. CONSTITUTION: A section of an X-axis in a trigonometric function curved surface is equally divided. Values of crossing points where vertical straight lines at boundary points of the divided sections cross the trigonometric function curved surface are obtained. Values of a trigonometric function to values of the sections are obtained by using a straight line equation connecting neighboring points in the obtained crossing points. Color values of fragments are decided by the obtained values of the trigonometric function. The section of the X-axis in a trigonometric function curved surface ranges from 0 to 90 deg.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A system and a method for processing bump mapping are provided to reduce the amount of computation with respect to bump mapping using polar coordinate system. CONSTITUTION: A system for processing bump mapping includes the first and second computation units and a memory. The first computation unit receives a direction vector value of an incident light with respect to a polygon to be mapped, an intermediate vector value of the direction vector value and a point vector value, and a vertical vector value, and converts the direction vector value and intermediate vector value from a three-dimensional object space into a three-dimensional bump space. The memory stores a bump vector map having a perturbed normal vector value of pixels for the polygon and a look-up table having parameters. The second computation unit receives the converted direction vector value and intermediate vector value from the first computation unit and reads the perturbed normal vector value and required parameters from the bump vector map and memory, to compute a color value of each pixel of the polygon.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for bump mapping using a polar coordinate system are provided to avoid redefining a matrix for transformation to a coordinate system on tangent space, thereby reducing hardware costs largely and generating a realistic image. CONSTITUTION: Vector rotation parts(100) make rotation transformation of a light direction vector(L) and an intermediate vector(H) on three-dimensional object space to three-dimensional tangent space by using a normal vector as a rotation value in order to move transformed vectors(L',H') onto tangent space. The light direction vector and the intermediate vector are represented as a type of a polar coordinate system. A bump vector map part(200) fetches a transformed normal vector(N') preliminarily calculated in a preprocess procedure from a bump vector map which uses the polar coordinate system. An illumination calculation part(300) calculates an inner product of the transformed normal vector and the vectors moved onto the tangent space. The illumination calculation part adds strength of diffuse light and strength of specular light by utilizing the inner product and thereby calculates an illumination value.
