Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing Alnus hirsute stem extract or a compound isolated from the same is provided to protect hepatocytes and to prevent and treat liver diseases. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating hepatotoxicity contains Alnus hirsute stem extract as an active ingredient. A composition for preventing and treating hepatotoxicity contains a compound of chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient. A method for preparing the Alnus hirsute extract comprises: a step of adding 0.1-10L of alcohol per 1kg of cut Alnus hirsute stem and refluxing at 60-100 °C for 2 to 6 hours; a step of filtering and decompressing extract; and a step of extracting with 1-5L of ethylacetate to obtain fraction.
