Abstract: 본 발명은 구형 활성탄의 제조방법에 관한 것으로서, 더욱 상세하게는 원료 핏치의 연화점을 상승시키는 전처리 과정, 상기 전처리된 원료 핏치 용융물을 수용액에 현탁시켜 구형입자로 성장시키는 구형화 과정, 구형입자를 산화, 탄화 및 활성화하는 일련의 공정을 거쳐 구형 활성탄을 제조하는 일반적 제조방법을 실시함에 있어 본 발명은 구형화 공정에 그 특징이 있는 것으로, 구형화 공정에서는 전처리된 핏치 용융물을 60 메쉬 이하 크기의 핏치 분말상으로 제조하여 계면활성제 수용액에 현탁시키고, 또한 구형화를 위한 현탁액의 교반 속도와 간단한 온도구배 조건을 둠으로써 구형입자의 입도 크기 및 분포제어가 용이하여 필터용 활성탄으로서 요구되어지는 25 ∼ 45 메쉬(ASTM 규격) 크기의 구형 활성탄 수율을 대폭 향상시킬 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 제조된 활성탄의 구형도 및 물리적 강도가 우수하여 액상과 기상 분리용 필터로서 효율적으로 사용할 수 있는 등의 장점을 가지는 구형 활성탄의 새로운 제조방법에 관한 것이다.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for efficiently manufacturing spherical activated carbon from pitch is provided. CONSTITUTION: In a method for manufacturing spherical activated carbon by globulizing, oxidizing, carbonizing and activating pitch, the method for manufacturing spherical activated carbon is characterized in that the globulization comprises processes of suspending pitch powder having a particle size corresponding to a sieve size of 40 meshes or less into surfactant aqueous solution having a concentration of 0.1 to 1.0 wt.%; and growing the mixture into spherical particles having a particle size corresponding to a sieve size of 25 to 45 meshes as having temperature gradient conditions in which the mixture is cooled to a temperature of 20 to 40 deg.C after maintaining the mixture to a temperature of 75 to 95 deg.C for 10 to 30 min as agitating the mixture to an agitation speed of 200 to 800 rpm, wherein the pitch powder is obtained by adding 30 to 45 wt.% of aromatic hydrocarbon compound to the treated mixture, melting and agitating the mixture and milling the melted and agitated mixture after adding 1 to 10 weight parts of nitro aromatic compound to 100 weight parts of raw material pitch, melting and agitating the mixture and treating the melted and agitated mixture, wherein the grown spherical particles are refined by solvent extraction using an extracting solvent of hexane, wherein the nitro aromatic compound is nitrobenzene, and the aromatic hydrocarbon compound is naphthalene based compound, wherein softening point of the pitch powder is 80 to 95 deg.C, and wherein the surfactant used in growing of the pitch powder particles is polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution.

Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing mesophase carbon microbeads having uniform particle size distribution and less impurities with high yield. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of (a) heat-treating raw pitch(7-12 wt.% of quinoline insolubles) under inert atmosphere at a temperature of 400 to 480 deg.C; and (b) extracting the heated reaction product of the step (a) with quinoline to recover particles, wherein more than 90 wt.% of the recovered particles are within the size range of 10 to 30 micrometers and the residual obtained after extraction is recycled as raw materials.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a multi-functional granular adsorptive material is provided to fundamentally improve demerits of an existing manufacturing method which is artificially combined simply using zeolite, activated carbon and binder by directly manufacturing zeolite and an activated carbon composite material using raw materials of bran and sodium aluminate aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION: The method for manufacturing a multi-functional granular adsorptive material comprises the processes of granulating the blended material by blending bran powder and sodium aluminate aqueous solution; and performing hydrothermal treatment using a sodium hydroxide aqueous solution after passing the granulated materials through carbonization and activation processes, wherein the carbonization process is performed under the temperature condition of 400 to 700 deg.C, or 750 to 950 deg.C under the infusion of steam, wherein the hydrothermal treatment comprises the processes of adding 3 to 8 wt.% of alkaline aqueous solution, aging at a temperature of 10 to 60 deg.C, and crystallization at a temperature of 80 to 110 deg.C, and wherein the adsorptive material is characterized in that a content of A, X or Y type zeolite is 55 to 70 wt.%, and a content of an activated carbon is 30 to 45 wt.%.
