Abstract: An apparatus and a method for controlling model-based EGR system are disclosed. The model-based EGR system estimates the amount of target air by reducing the flow rate of HP EGR corresponding to the flow rate of LP EGR when the LP EGR is supplied in an operating condition for controlling only the flow rate of HP EGR. The invention comprises a step of: (1) whether or not the occurrence of the transition of the operating condition is determined in an idle stop state that the flow amount of the HP EGR is only controlled in a vehicle with the EGR system; (2) determining the LP EGR duty according to the operating variables and considering the LP EGR is supplied when the transition of the operating condition occurs; (3) determining the HP EGR duty by determining the reduction amount of the HP EGR based on the inflow rate of the LP EGR; and (4) supplying the LP EGR based on the LP EGR duty and estimating the inflow rate of air by reducing the HP EGR based on the HP EGR duty to maintain the inflow rate of the EGR. Abstract: A control method of a VGT is provided to prevent the damage of a VGT at low speed and to maintain the power performance of a vehicle at high speed by setting up the target base boost pressure low at low speed and setting up the target boost pressure separately at high speed.
