    Abstract: PURPOSE: A pre-ignition detecting apparatus and a high performance engine operation method using the same are provided to optimize all the operation ranges of an engine by calculating a pre-ignition starting point based on measured enthalpy value. CONSTITUTION: A pre-ignition detecting apparatus comprises an enthalpy sensor (21) and an engine control unit (ECU) (30). The enthalpy sensor is installed in a combustion chamber of an engine with a spark plug (3) to detect the enthalpy of the combustion chamber. The ECU has a logic to determine whether or not the pre-ignition of the combustion chamber is generated based on the enthalpy of the combustion chamber.
