Abstract: A device for marking a vehicle identification number is provided to prevent stopping of an assembly line even upon occurrence of abnormality in a marking tool. A device for marking a vehicle identification number includes a first marking tool(30) mounted on one end of a rotatable arm of a robot(10) to mark a vehicle identification number on a vehicle body(BIW). The rotatable arm of the robot is equipped with a second marking tool(30') mounted in the opposite direction relatively to the mounting direction of the first marking tool by 180 degrees. An electronic control unit of the robot includes a control board equipped with a switch for rotating the arm by 180 degrees. The first and second marking tools are mounted on the end of the arm of the robot via a mounting bracket(20).
