Abstract:
Disclosed is a liquid crystal composition characterized by containing 15% by mass or more of a compound having a terminal structure represented by the general formula (I) below. This liquid crystal composition has high dielectric constant anisotropy ( ϵ) and low rotational viscosity (Ϝ1), and is thus suitably used as a liquid crystal composition for IPS liquid crystal displays or low voltage-driven TN liquid crystal displays. (I) (In the above formula, Q represents a saturated or unsaturated alkyl group having 1-8 carbon atoms which may be substituted by a halogen atom.)

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing agent for a liquid crystal dropping method suitable as a sealing agent for a liquid crystal dropping method characterized by two step curing of photo curing utilizing visible light wherein light having 400 nm wavelength or lower is cut and thermal curing and having low curing temperature, high adhesion strength and low contamination to a liquid crystal. SOLUTION: The sealing agent for the liquid crystal dropping method includes the following components (1), (2), (3) and (4). (1) a curing agent comprising a reaction product obtained by reacting a polyamine having at least one active hydrogen and at least two nitrogen atoms in its molecule and an acid compound, (2) a thermosetting resin, (3) an acyl phosphine-based photo initiator and (4) a photocurable resin. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable composition exhibiting a liquid crystal phase at temperatures near room temperature, excellent in solvent-solubility, giving thin polymer films obtained by curing the polymerizable composition which film keeps a uniform film state and is excellent in heat-resistance, orientation control and optical properties even when the polymer film is formed to be a thin film. SOLUTION: The polymerizable composition comprises a monofunctional (meth)acrylate compound represented by general formula (1) and a bifunctional (meth)acrylate compound represented by general formula (3). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an appraisal method remotely determining the authenticity of an anti-counterfeit medium having a latent image using optical anisotropy difficult to be visually recognized without being known by a third person. SOLUTION: This appraisal method is used for remotely determining the authenticity of a verifying object that is the anti-counterfeit medium having the latent image using optical anisotropy or another medium having no latent image. The verifying object is irradiated with light of an invisible light area having polarization of one direction, the reflected light reflected by the verifying object is made to transmit through a polarizing plate arranged on the optical path, and the light having transmitted through the polarizing plate is observed or photographed, thereby remotely determining the authenticity of the verifying object. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solvent composition having excellent safety, low odor, high dissolving power to various organic materials and excellent affinity to various substrates. SOLUTION: The solvent composition contains (a) a tetralin compound expressed by general formula (I) and (b) a polyether compound expressed by general formula (II). In the general formula (I), x is an integer of 0-4; y is an integer of 0-8; R 1 and R 2 are each independently a 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy or 2-10C alkenyl or alkenyloxy group which may be substituted with halogen atoms; when there are multiple R 1 or R 2 groups, these groups may be the same or different. In the general formula (II), m is 1-10; p is 0, 1 or 3; Prop is 1,2-propylene group; R 3 and R 4 are each independently a 1-10C alkyl; when m is ≥2, the methyl substitution site of the multiple 1,2-propylene groups expressed by Prop may be random.
